I agree and disagree. No, this game is definitely not for the hardcore. I kinda figured this before I started playing.
I'm not really hardcore nor casual, I'm somewhat inbetween. Do I think FF should feel threatened by ESO, Wildstar,
and/or EQN? Not necessarily. I've not heard one good word about ESO (yet), the Wildstar hype seems to be
nowhere at the moment, and EQN I don't know. Will FF die? No way.

I do agree that a lot of things are handed out way too easily (for most) and the game itself as a whole just isn't
challenging to a lot of people, myself included. I played every single day from launch for several hours/day up
until about a month ago. Those several hours turned into one hour, and now have turned into a 3 day span
I haven't even looked at the game.

I think a lot of it is just the burnout from 6 months of the same Coil, and hopefully 2.2 will breathe some life into
people again. There are also a lot of awesome console games, both new and HD remakes, that are out or coming
out in the next few months that are drawing people away from FF. So I'd expect people to be dropping FF whether
it be temporarily or permanently here soon, especially if 2.2 doesn't deliver.

Anyhow, we'll just have to see what happens here during 2.2/2.3.

When people say hardcore, they mostly think about endgame dungeon & gear grind. To me there's lot's more of activities that eat away at my time .___. I even enjoy grinding achievements for fun >.> crafting stuff for gil I don't spend, trying to fill my fish log, being silly doing nothing but chatting etc.

In terms of how much interest I have in end game battle related stuff, I'd put myself more in the casual category though. I do like grinding end game, but it's not why I'm here, playing. With that said, even if I consider myself to be a casual player, I still think this game lacks a whole lot of width. Or depth, if you prefer to put it that way.

There's new Primal HM & EX modes coming out, new Coil and dungeons... I'm not even really excited. It's just more of the same, in a way, to me. The hype is gone.... Basically, I know what to expect and know how it's going to be played out (same as in previous patches). Seeing as it's more instanced stuff that we're getting is making me even less enthusiastic about doing content I haven't even seen yet.

On the other hand, I'll be on break from ARR for a month and a half, on vacation, so I might feel different when I return.

When Elders Scrolls Online, Wildstar and Everquest Next come out Final Fantasy will die because all those games are new and shiny, but after a month I'll be complaining about those game to because they are all lack luster and will have failed because they are WOW clones. If new MMMORPG stop using the same formula as WOW like all games in the same genre us the same formula maybe people won't get bored like how people got tired of Call of Duty.
    I agree 100%! Thank you!

Offshoot of the the whole Casual v Hardcore War, except when applied to Free2Play Games.

In Free2Play MMOs, casuals are seen as the ones most likely to leave a game when it is 1) to grindy, 2) to hard, 3) not new anymore, and go off into another game. On the flip side, a hardcore is a player that sticks to one game through everything, no matter how bad the game is, how difficult the game is, or how old it is.

Because Casuals are less invested (via time) to the game than hardcore gamers are, it is not uncommon for hardcores to believe that casuals will leave a game at the drop of a hat once the new shiny comes out, which they do quite often in F2P games.

Everquest Next has very little information on it for people to care. The whole WoW formula will never go away unless the player base stops expecting everything under the sun all because they pay $15 a month to play. Any 15-16 year old working at McDonalds can make $15 in two hours of work flipping burgers. That all started after Burning Crusade when Blizzard started nerfing raid bosses 2 weeks after release, because guilds couldn't clear bosses. Hell Ulduar wasn't even all the way opened yet before they started nerfing bosses. FFS the only bosses up to that point that were EVER nerfed was C'Thun in AQ40, and that was before AQ40 was released. The dev's had a heard time killing him. Until the mind set of play base changes then NOTHING will change.

Mostly I find the best way to keep yourself entertained in games like these is to find people who are interested in playing with you. Of course you would still be playing the same quests, BUT the big thing for me is the role play quality. I personally am looking for people to role play with. It creates a better play for me, even when things get easy, there is always chat and build-your-own-story, to keep you going.

Its just hard finding people who are willing to role play. If any who see this post are, please send me a pm.

Wildstar looks exactly like Jack and Daxter lol.

On topic: Even though this is just a troll thread, this game really isn't for hard-cores or anyone that wants a challenge.

Haha I thought Ratchet and Clank! That's what it reminds me of with the space age stuff.
