Coming back after 4 months of absence!

First of all:
I was surprised that at least Ul'dah was far from being a ghost town on my server, and some improvements really got me hooked. Suddenly I realized the markers on my map: oh joy! REAL quests after all!

So, nothing better for a fresh start than starting on a fresh job, I told myself, and decided on lancer as my next profession!

...

2 hours later, I remembered why I had left in the first place. I was standing in a market ward in Ul'dah. The low level gear I was searching for was spread out among many retainers in many different wards, and after an hour of shopping (!) I thought: Screw it. I'll simply take some old used equipment from my retainer and be done. So I summoned my retainer. Or better: tried to. The little bastard actually had the guts to refuse to appear.

"ERROR ERROR. This ward is full, you cannot summon your retainer here. And we DON'T CARE whether you simply want to fetch some equipment or sell some marmot meat in the crystal ward."

Great. Then again, i tried to summon it in the battlecraft ward. My fault. So I went to the crystal ward.

"ERROR ERROR..."

Same as before. Ok, crystals are just as commonly sold. So maybe in the metal ward.

"ERROR ERROR..."

Wood ward?

"ERROR ERROR..."

Stone ward?

"ERROR ERROR".

Finally, I teleported to Limsa Lominsa and summoned my retainer there. Just to realize that the stuff I was looking for was actually on my second retainer. In Gridania. As were the leather spetches I needed to repair my boots.

I am sooooo happy they are adding really interesting stuff (job system, auto attack and dungeons, to name just a few). But at it's core, this game is still so horribly inconvenient and convoluted, that new players will rip out their hair before even setting a foot out of their starting town!

The wards have a search feature which takes you right to the retainer that is selling what you searched for, if it took you hours to find something you did not use the "Item Search" feature. Atm finding an item is only slightly more of a hassle then in most mmos where it is go to an AH then run to a Mailbox.

The wards being full atm is a major issue though that I will agree with, but you can also call your retainer in the adv guild or shop area with the retainer bells, this is not limited by the # of people.

With a bell, ding a ling! This is also why I don't set up shop in Ul'dah or anywhere really, the markets are a giant waste of time right now imo with a broken crafting system and is really not a very good replacement for an AH... :/

Welcome back, yes. You can go into any of the adventure guilds and ring the bell and summon your retainer, any retainer that is to you.

However, you do bring up some points, and that is SE not only needs to do a better job of solving these issues, but needs to offer this information in game.

That's why I vote for an in game news paper that posts information up on patch notes, along with other features (both fun and topical) ... the raven anyone, or the other cities news papers, that players can read in game.

Anyway, welcome back again, things are about to change big time, so you might have just come back at the right time.

I found the items all right (although I have to admit it took me some time to realize aktons were not classified as robes but as battle gowns and then find the right akton in the long list of that ward). That feature was already implemented 4 months ago. the problem was that once I had found an item, I had to search the (marked) retainer in the appropriate ward among his 500 brothers and sisters (50 of which shared the red star). For every equipment slot. And then, i had to search for the next item by running back to the end of the ward. For every equipment slot. Try it. Takes some time -.^/

Unless, of course, you mean literally:

haven't played in 4 months and your retainer was still up in another city, luuuckyyy.

oh and to solve the problem of to many retainers in the wards, implement an AH and have retainers as a secondary form of sales.

SE had this great idea that retainers would make it look like a real life market area, ha, what a joke. Looks like a bunch of zombies bunched up shoulder to shoulder. Go ahead and tell me how awesome the wards are and ill tell you now in advance, your wrong.

Remember the name of the cheapest seller. That's what I do.

And I actually find running around the wards fun >.> It lets me look at other retainers' equipment and go "OH MY GOD I WANT THAT ... " and then cry because I can't afford it.
