Potencies and how they are calculated.

So, looking at all of the new forum posts about all of the new skills, and how good or bad they have affected us, it made me wonder about potencies. What are they specifically? What I mean is how are they canculated? It's easy to see that 200 potency will deal higher damage but how does our strength, dexterity, mind, or intelligence effect the outcome. I know there is also accuracy, critical hit rate, and determination, but my main concern is the potencies themselves. And if they just keep getting higher wiil we eventually see a potency of 1000 or more on a skill?

I like helping people with their Job ideas, it's fun to help them visuallize and create the job they'd like to play most. Plus I make my own too, I'll post them eventually.

Potency generally shows how strong skills will be in comparison to each other. I'm pretty sure so far nobody has REALLY been able to figure out potency for battle classes.

And if they just keep getting higher wiil we eventually see a potency of 1000 or more on a skill?
One of AST's heals scales to ~1000 potency when the target is at 1hp.

So for ease of calculation, presuming I have 10 strength, and my weapon is 10-20 damage, and the ability has a potency of 100, then the math would look like the following:

    ((10+100)/100)*10=11
    ((10+100)/100)*20=22
So the attack damage would be anywhere from 11-22.

But if the potency if like 250, then it would be:

    ((10+250)/100)*10=26
    ((10+250)/100)*20=52
So the attack damage would be anywhere from 26-52.

    and there you go.

All your attributes are weighted differently for each class, but the respective formula outputs your Attack Power stat. Potency acts as a multiplier on that.

place an imaginary decimal behind the hundreds place digit and use it as a multiplier.

    50 potency = 0.50x damage ( -50% power)

    100 potency = 1.00x damage.

    150 potency = 1.50x damage. ( +50% power)

    260 potency = 2.60x damage (+160% power)

This is pretty much how it works.
