On PS3 Release: New servers for new characters only.

The overwhelming majority of us who purchased the collectors edition did so for the 8-day head start. Finally we had our chance to start a real MMO from the beginning (we were unable to do so with FFXI because the game had released a year prior in Japan.)

Unfortunately, due to the lackluster quality of the game at release, most of us stopped playing as we could not justify the time we spent in Eorzea.

Upon PS3 release, I urge you to open new servers for new characters only - no transfers. It is discouraging for many of us to come back to the game filled with maxed-out players - especially considering we paid a premium to join the game a mere 8 days early. I promise that such a move would encourage even more players to come back to Eorzea if they knew they had a fresh start. Please give us our chance.

Edit: There is a lot of misunderstanding going on here. This post is under the assumption that everybody already knows that PS3 and PC players are going to be able to play in the same servers (they will). This thread is merely asking for extra new, optional servers for new characters. Keep in mind that there are a lot of PS3 players who were bummed out that they couldn't start with everybody else and will be waay behind. I don't see how you could go wrong by doing this.

I would support that. I've put in quite a bit of time in on my character, but I think I would almost prefer to start over with new players and a finished game. By the time this comes out on PS3 the rules of the game will have completely changed, so someone who is rank 50 now will not have leveled up under the same game rules as someone who is starting new. As a new player that would be pretty discouraging.

If I'm reading right the OP is saying for the NEW players who starting fresh on the PS3 OR the PC players who wish to start from scratch with the NEW FFXIV (after all the updates/upgrades/etc.) they also can start one on the PS3 then it will be a new char on new server. If you're PC player already and want to play the same char on PS3 it's just matter of logging in with that char anyways no?

IF PS3 players WANTS to play with friends or already existing server knowing that their are R50's all around already, let them choose that. I don't see nothing wrong with this stuff. If OP means same as what I just said here then I support this.

This. Not that we even have a server transfer option yet, but it would be nice.

There's ALWAYS going to be people ahead of you in an MMO, why do we want other people - especially in this case, those of us who worked hard and put up with FFXIV all this time - to be inconvenienced? At best, this solution will only keep things fresh for a very short duration - joining the PS3 release a month or two into it's release won't be all that much better than joining an existing PC server, there will be tons of people by then way ahead of you.

Why inconvenience players with a punishment that's only a temporary solution anyway?

I'm pretty sure there will be atleast a couple new "worlds" along with ps3 launch. So for those who want to start from zero can.

I don't think this game will release on PS3. It's just going to take to long, by the time its anywhere near ready we will have all moved on to PS4.

Yea, sounds like he just wants them to do for the PS3 what the did for the standard edition...
Open a new server... and still not allow server transfers....
If the traffic warrants it, I'm sure they will open a new server and I doubt they will have transfers by then.....
So if you start fresh at the time of PS3 release (on PS3 OR PC) you will possibly have new servers....
He is not saying a PS3 only server....
So people on the PS3 can get on Besaid or Lindblum or whatever....
He just wants a server that is new...
I do miss the days when everyone was wearing weathered gear....
