    Journal checkboxes for Duty List

OK, so we finally got the checkboxes in the Journal to choose which quests should show up in the Duty List. That's a good first step. The problem is that they only half-way work. Right now, if the boxes are checked, those quests will be in the Duty List, but if they're unchecked, that means nothing at all, and they may still show up there anyway just to clutter up the screen and prevent us from being able to identify which ones we're currently working on. I want a Duty List that shows specifically those quests I'm working on and no others.

Please fix those checkboxes, so they can be used in both directions, i.e. if a quest is checked then it will be in the Duty List and if it's unchecked then it won't be in the Duty List.

(As we pick up new quests, they should probably default to going in the Duty List if there's room for them or just to the Journal if the Duty List is already full. But in both cases, the checkboxes should match whether they're there or not, so we can just go into the journal and change the checks if we want something other than that default.)

You can also make a macro containing "/hud dlist" (without quotes) that will toggle the duty list on or off as needed, when you don't want it cluttering up your screen.

but thats not an optimal option actually.

its a normal thing, that in each MMO you can check and uncheck quests which you want to have on the right side to show up.
If any quest is unchecked, there should be no quest info on the right side.

i dont get why this seems to be such a big problem...

the current checkbox system is quiet odd.. it just lets you sort which quest should primarliy should show up... thats all. there will be always 5 quest infos on the right side. and this is such an annoying thing..

I didn't know about that "/hud dlist" command, so thanks, but I don't think it really helps this issue.

What I want is to be able to see what it is that I'm supposed to do next. I don't want to hide the Duty List. I want to use it. I want it to tell me the next objective for the quests I'm working on. And that's what's getting obscured by the clutter of a bunch of other random quests that I'm not currently working on. With the current version, every time I look at it I have to sort out whether any of those things it lists are current objectives or not, and if so, which ones. It's annoying having the meaningful entries in the Duty List obscured by the clutter in the Duty List.

Oh I totally agree with you on that. When they mentioned in the patch notes that they added back the checkboxes, and I noticed that unchecking them does nothing, I said to myself, "Well, that's useless." There's not much point in allowing you to select which quests are active if you can't select which ones should be inactive.

Completely useless new function, I was expecting the behavior during beta testing, hiding of quest when unchecked.

Yeah, I tried it out for the first time the other day, feeling glad they added it back. Then I read the help text where it says it just prioritizes the checked ones higher in the list. It's a shame, too, since the quest tracker toggle worked so well in beta.

I like it the way it is. I don't want it to hide quests that are unchecked. It would be such a huge pain to have to go and manually check things for every single quest instead of just for priority.

If you don't want useless quests cluttering up your screen then don't accept them unless you actually plan on completing them.

So let's take the Primal Focus quest for instance. This quest can either take you an hour to complete from the moment you pick it up or the whole week. In both cases, I would want to hide it because I already know what I need to do and don't want it cluttering up my screen.

It wouldn't be every single quest. As you pick up new quests, it could default to having them initially checked so they show up automatically (provided there's room to do so). Just let us go back and un-check them if we're not going to get to them for a while.

Not all quests are completed in the same region where they're picked up. You have to pick them up while you're in the region the quest giver is in, but the next objective may be clear across Eorzea in a region that you're not going to get to for a while. When choosing which of my quests I'm going to work on now while I'm here, I'll take a look at which of them have their next objective in my current region or at least a nearby one. Once all those are done, I'll travel to another area and do all the quests I have in that region.

Another possible reason for having a non-current quest in your quest Journal is if it's an important one you don't want to lose track of. When I'm going to take a break from the main storyline to do a few other quests for a while or level up additional classes or whatever, I'll still pick up the next main storyline quest so it's there in my Journal. That's the easiest way to ensure that when I'm ready to return to the main storyline, I won't have lost track of where I left off on it.
