Problem with this is the same thing you see in WoW will happen here, people will sell their rankings to others so that they can get the gears. My arena group made thousands of gold doing this.

Yeah, most of us did it or at the very least helped friends. I feel as though that was more a product of how easy it was to get back on top with a new team. In a PvE Final Fantasy setting I imagine a system that takes far to long for most people to bother exploiting it.

If it took months of being in the top 1% of raid/quest groups I doubt LS's would trade the currency for gil very often or at least not until well after the gear became obsolete.
