Storage issues, seems like a few easy fixes could help

I'm trying to lvl up my craft & gath classes - problem is I'm CONSTANTLY running out of space
I do have a few ideas I'd love to put in front of developers for future patches:
    1. A tackle box that takes up only 1 spot-in the tackle box are all of my lures and bait which take up about 10 spots now
    2. Get rid of the 2 retainers, use only 1 - double their space & ability to sell so you don't lose any spots, but this gong back and forth between retainers to try to remember where I put a piece of lumber or rock is getting crazy.
    3. Add addtl spots for both main character and retainer, current amount is not enough for 3 gath and all craft classes.
    4. Add a function to sort alphabetically by name.
I really want to get into this crafting thing more, but it's getting tiresome looking for stuff. Any inventory tricks you guys use? Are these problems you're having as well or am I just someone that can't throw stuff away?

We are getting a third retainer. Some time before 2.2 was the last official word on that, but since that was very vague it could end up being different than that.

One retainer is gear, materia, and unique items. The other retainer is crafting materials. As for finding items in your retainer, sort is your friend. The default sort is useful enough since it groups materials by type. I.e. all ores together, all logs together, all lumber together, etc.

Sell stuff on the markets. Once you get to max level in a craft, you'll know what the commonly used items you really need to keep are. Sell everything else. What I do every day I log in is go through my retainer selling everything that lists at over npc pricing until my bazaar is full. If an item sells on the markets for within a couple gil as selling it to an NPC, then I just move it to my inventory and NPC it. It's not worth using up either a retainer slot or market slot.

Use the armoire in your inn room for everything that you can. It's free inventory space.

If you didn't organize it as such initially it might be a huge ordeal, but I just named one of my retainers armoury and keep all weapons, armor, etc. that I don't currently need on him and all the crafting stuff on the other guy. Whenever my inventory fills up I sell off the crap, keep the HQ stuff, and possibly sell whatever I have that might be worth something. All the crafting ingredients can be a huge inventory hog unless you have some kind of focus on what you're trying to accomplish. Try not to keep ingredients around that you might use at some point and when gathering try to concentrate on one or only a couple of specific things (like whatever you need for crafting/ whatever sells best) and disregard everything else. Unless you're trying to complete your crafting logs it shouldn't be difficult to keep the clutter to a minimum.

I'm doing most of this, I guess I just need to sell more stuff that I'm not using, just hanging on to because I "Might" need it in crafting. I really like the idea of naming the retainers something like "gear...." and "crafting" but I already named them after Pam Anderson and... never-mind. I'll have to keep this in mind when/if we get the third retainer. I would pay real money for a tackle box. Thanks for the feedback.

    Yes, storage is insane!

I have more of an issue with the armory chest.

I don't like using sort, but I have a very similar setup. One retainer is gear, materia, and food ingredients, the other is crafting materials.

First 2 pages of each is reserved for stuff that's going to be sold, hides to be made into leather, junk in limbo, etc.

Crafting retainer has 3 pages for metals/bones/stones, 1 for lumber and leather, 1 for alchemy, 1 for cloth stuff.

I used to do this too, but putting everything in it's proper place became an exercise in tedium. I find it much more sanity inducing now to just right-click once on each item to add them to the retainer and then right-click on any item in the retainer once to sort the retainer. The sorting is actually pretty close to what I had already sorted it as, which was a bonus. The only thing significantly different is that the 'page breaks' don't line up with the item types, and for me that is such a minor inconvenience compared to having to manually place every item on its desired page.

I know there's also manual sorting, but I haven't played around with it yet. If it works with the retainer, then it would be something pretty easy to macro so you can have your own custom sort at the click of a button. The no page break thing would still exist, but you could get the items in the order you want.

Allow stacks to be 999 instead of 99
Allow HQ and NQ to share the same stack
