I suppose I'm simply spoiled by having played games like City of Heroes and even Rift.

This implementation of a housing system is clearly an open alpha cleverly thrown out there as a giant gil sink in its present form. In time, I'm sure they'll take what they learn here, improve on it, deliver individual player housing and maybe even make it player friendly across the boards.

I shall, in my mind, simply decide that housing hasn't actually released yet.

Its basically true for almost everybody anyway.

A system is not made good by its potential; amazing potentials are wasted, unrecognized and unutilized everywhere every single day. Potential is a measure for nothing. It is the superfluous 'might have been' when taking what is and is not to account. It does nothing; it means nothing unless acted upon and the time to act upon it is always now. Not tomorrow, not 'Soon™' - Now.

TL;DR - Do it right or don't bother.

A more intelligent method to the housing scenario would have been making the plots cheap to entice people to buy in droves, then everything beyond that is expensive. In that way, you've already got people committed with the empty plot of land they now own, now they need to start grinding gil to make it something they can be proud of. The economy would also indirectly receive a jolt of life, rather than this stagnant comatose that is pretty much across all servers. But I suppose since they allowed the Legacy server economies to become so atrociously inflated, that would have been too much work to implement, because fuck working, these minions aren't going to create themselves.

It's too bad too, since the FC I'm in finally accrued enough gil to purchase a medium plot thanks to the deep pockets of some individuals. The housing is really quite fun to do, and you get a really good feeling of camaraderie organizing and crafting everything with your friends. It's just a shame that because of baffling design decisions, most people won't get to experience that for quite some time, unless you buy some pathetic small house that would be cramped for a single person to own, let alone a Free Company.

Launching FC housing before personal housing was a mistake. A simple system for players with a more elaborate, future version for guilds would have been fine.

Lack of customization I attribute to the Playstation 3. The sooner that platform is dropped from active development the better, it's memory has been a crippling problem throughout it's life, putting a modern MMO on it is like salting a wound.

everyone quoting this line and taking it seriously, please just stop. it is so painfully obvious that he is being sarcastic as hell XD or continue and just make me lol even more. Housing is what it is. Its not a final form, they pushed it out too early to test the waters because everyone wanted it so bad. now that its out everyone hates it because it isnt perfect as soon as its released. If you know nothing about business then you really have no right to complain about MMOs. they are a business, they have people that make the final say. The devs just go along with what they want.

I like my "pathetic" small house. It's perfect for my... two-person free company. There are plenty of free companies that are happy with their little cottages out there. Once the small house is doubled in size and with a basement in 2.2 or shortly after, it'll plenty of room for a small group, which is who they're really catered towards anyway.

Seems I'm not the only one that's holding this system at arm's length like a week-dead fish we've collectively been handed. I'll give it props where they're due; it could be a great system if they'd open it up more, for the ten tons of nothing such sentiment is worth.

The PS3 can't handle much due to its crippling lack of RAM, as we know. Will we always be held back in every system by the PS3's limitations? Looking beyond being ubiquitously held back by the slowest platform on the podium, if something as important as a housing debut is so estranged from anything resembling user-friendliness or accessibility courtesy of economy-oriented design decisions that seem to be informed by no amount of economic-based knowledge what so ever, what can we expect for future system releases?

    These are important questions.
