>>>>>>>>>>You do realize that those expansions happened over time and not until the game was out in the US for... how many years?... before they pieced it together to what it is now. Those places developed... over time... *oh no! he's trying to make sense!* Even when the expansions first released, those places didn't get fleshed out immediately.
How long exactly has 2.0 been out now? Give the game 3-5 years... like with the content you are talking about... just like we had to wait in XI. There is no instant gratification ...
<<<<as content actually takes time to develop.

What exactly has been happening since the first release of FFXIV? Did they do that release, identify the challenges needed/plan of attack to get going on and the.... STOP? Pretty sure the interim of time from then to now is...
...a couple of years. Yea.
Quit asking for instant gratification ya bunch of wretches...give it about four more years and come back and check it out once you have children and wanna show the little ones a grand ole time. Be reasonable. Don't ask for everything to be done NOW.

No, it was a flop because it just wasn't finished on release, nor did it really start getting more than a finished type feel until after they started charging money again about a year later.
The only thing there was to do in 1.0 at launch was.. grinding. Nothing but grinding. No real quests, limited story. In essence, it was just plain boring. It was released more as an "alpha" state where you didn't even have any meaningful gameplay. Not because they couldn't advertise.
If they kept the same game engine they could have had plenty more by now.
But, they chose to pretty much start from scratch again meaning 2.0 is in a similar state as when 1.0 launched. They didn't even get all of the 1.0 converted into 2.0 as it was which is why it will take time as of 2.0 launch. Everything from 1.0 is gone, pretty much recreated from scratch. You can't even count the 1.0 time since its not the same game engine. 2.0, the basis for the current game start has been out for months. Not 2+ years.
If you want 11 play 11, this game is going to be a gear treadmill where your effort resets every 6 months instead of every expansion
WHEN did they 'throw' out the 1.0...and start on the 2.0? Did they occupy themselves with other parts of the business and just let 1.0 sit there for say, 18 months and then start on 2.0 like maybe three, four months ago?
So unlikely.
2.0/Its been 'in production' a good while, certainly long enough for them to decide to RELEASE IT. Comeon.

It may be unlikely but its true. 2.0 only happened because of the the staff changes and Yoshi took over (after there last roadmap ended and they were free to do so), You may have not been there but as soon as yoshi was in place, he sent out that long survey on what to do with the game. Yoshi rebuilt the game from scratch due to the survey information at the time.WHEN did they 'throw' out the 1.0...and start on the 2.0? 2.0 production didn't even come into being until later than December after 1.0 was released.

betas
2.0 released.
All in all they rebuilt the game in a couple short years and had nowhere the time invested as in the original 1.0. If you mean 2.0's development as about 2 or so years as a long while, then I can agree with you. But I don't personally consider about 2-3 years to reconvert a game into a new game engine a long time heheh

While I still believe that open world HNMs can stay in XI where they belong, I wouldn't mind something similar to the ZNM series that existed in XI's ToAU expansion. It would be something to get players back into the open world.
For those unfamiliar you would farm up a certain number of Zeni (in XIV's case it could just be tomestones or something) and then buy a pop item from an NPC which you could then use to pop a notorious monster in a specific location. Once you had defeated three certain Tier 1 NMs you would trade the 3 items you got from them for a Tier 2 pop item and so on, all the way up to Tier 5 which was Pandemonium Warden. It did require a certain amount of NM grinding (especially to get T4 or T5 pop items). T1 could generally be soloed by certain jobs, T2 required 2-3 people, T3 a full party, T4 a full alliance and T5 needed entire linkshells (in it's original form anyway).
I just think something like this would make the world feel more alive, with players fighting tough NMs out in the open world for people to see. FATEs don't really achieve this. SE have said they are looking into more open world content but I guess we'll see what they bring.
