Horizontal progression allows them to play the game equally , the downfall of FFXI during its early days is absolutely non-existent Party tools like the duty finder during the time which made the game "too gated"If it does not become irrelevant, that means a new player will have to complete everything to catch up. It might take them 6 months... and that's a turn off for new players. It's hard enough joining a new game, but then being asked to do the content people were doing 6 months ago as a requisite for catching up is a mistake.
I think that was one of the worst parts of FFXI in the beginning. It was too gated.

But don't expect an official comment about this being true; they'd like to keep getting the bucks from all who may be confused, late to the party for information etc.
...and from the Gridania forest mysts proceed the souls of warriors and heroes; among which I am honored to serve as part of the One.
we most likely get new tomes from the 3 new dungeons+ 6-9,
let's say they give 30/30/40 (AT being harder it gives more) and with a 300cap like before 2.1 you don(t need to do each one more than 3times every week. and less once you clear coil 6+
if you choose to run the same dungeon 8-10times instead it's not SE fault!
@2.3 we'll get 3"new" dungeons +CT2 to farm new tomes too.
Too bad people can only "farm" tomes/ gear and not "skill" XD
Jk jk lol
Lets just be happy that we r getting an update that will have content for everyone.
New gear, new dungeons, new items, new concepts, new story, everything will smell new and more fresh with that fabreeze called 2.2.
Aw yeahhhh can't wait to find new ways to cheese dungeon bosses with the supposedly incresed vit on the new gear.
It was this.I dont think OP is saying he wants his gear to be the best for ever, or that he wants everyone to have to struggle like he did forever. I think his problem is that they are making it useless so fast. Other mmos usually don't make it where it takes months to get the gear due to some casual token system AND THEN make it obsolete with every patch, not expansion.
I never wanted my gear to stay the most relevant gear forever. I left because I wanted to wait for new content so I could obtain new gear and continue to enjoy the game. I enjoy progression as much as anyone, which in my opinion is the main focus of any MMORPG.
Also, a few people brought up "play for fun".
I thought this game was incredibly fun, however doing the same content over and over for 3 months isn't fun no matter how you look at it.
Someone also mentioned that 3 months to obtain ilvl90 is casual, not hardcore. I never mentioned that I was hardcore. However, when you're locked out of content weekly it comes down to luck entirely. There's almost no way to be a hardcore player in this game other than EX Primals. I can play 24/7 but if I'm locked out I'll progress the same as people who only play on Monday's.
My issue wasn't with the fact new gear was coming. My issue was that new gear was coming so soon and this would be a repeating pattern. I'm all for new gear but if I spend 6 months repeatedly doing the same content over and over just to have it open to everyone as soon as I'm finished doing it it makes the struggle feel purposeless. I would be extremely happy if it was with each expansion, not every other update.
Again, I'm not bothered by new gear. I'm bothered by how quickly gear becomes irrelevant. I don't care about my e-peen, I'd just like to use my gear for more than a week before new gear comes. Lock-outs prevent me from obtaining it as quickly as I want.
Also, I love how people felt the need to attack me despite the fact I was being as respectful as I possibly could. Just goes to show how immature the internet is, I guess.
And yeah, I realize I just attacked people. I'm not as mature as I'd like to be, kthxbai.
Anyway, to the people who actually listened to what I said and responded in a decent manor: Thank you. I just wanted assistance on whether or not this game was for me, and I have my answer. I enjoyed my time here and I hope everyone else continues to enjoy their time, too.
Have fun attacking me again, guys. Not that I'll read it, but I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself regardless.
