    Gear Progression after 2.2

I stopped playing this game about a month ago. Not because I didn't enjoy the game, but I got to ilevel 90 with my BLM in 3 months and I really didn't feel like spending another 3 months on each class, so I stopped subbing and decided I'd retry again after the next big patch.

However, I saw patch notes and such about 2.2 and noticed we get new tomes. There was also information about the fact that Coil 1-5 will no longer have lock-outs and Myth Tomes won't have caps, essentially turning Myth gear into the new Philo gear.

This essentially means I spent $45 total to play every week to get the slightest chance to upgrade my gear, yet anyone with a few days spare time can now farm for all the gear I struggled to obtain and get to where I am with very little effort other than boring grinding. The $45 (or 60 if you include the first month of leveling my first class and getting used to the game) all came to me having maybe a weeks headstart on the new content than anyone who just reached level 50.

I'm not against this system and I understand their reasoning. I mean, what's the point in making epic new content if only 1% of the game population is going to get to experience it, with even less being able to experience the next content. I also know that other MMORPG's have used this in the past.

Is this going to happen every 3-6 months, though? Am I going to struggle to obtain all this new gear just to have it unlocked when I'm finished obtaining it so everyone else can obtain it stress-free? I wouldn't mind if it was with every expansion rather than every coil update, but it feels like I might as well wait until 2.4 comes and farm for 2.2's gear and keep doing that.

I'm not angry at the game, nor am I complaining or hoping it'll bend to my will or anything, I'm just wondering if this is a game I want to keep investing in. I wouldn't mind if it was a F2P MMORPG, but spending money for weeks of playtime to gain gear only to have it obtainable in a few days later on feels like a bad use of my money, is all.

If this is the case I won't be able to re-sub, but I wish the game all the luck in the world and hope it doesn't fail. I really enjoyed my 3 months of playing. Probably the most fun I've had in an MMORPG when it came to end-game and I'm a huge lover of the FF series as a whole. The money I've spent so far has felt worthwhile, so I don't regret playing.

Sidenote: If anyone in my FC reads this, I kind-of forgot to say I wasn't playing anymore, so... yeah. Woops.

Here's a link to a bunch of rotation and DPS numbers I wrote up to try help BLM see they aren't as weak as they might think.

You have basically summed up the difference between vertical progression and horizontal progression. And to answer your question "is this going to happen every 3-6 months"... Yes.

Kinda, but to extreme approach. They're doing what WoW does in every expansion in every other major patch. Bit extreme. Can even apparently get i90 gear crafted in 2.2 too.

Every 6 months, not every 3 months.
there would be no big ilevel cap increase in 2.3
Maybe around max. 5 level, like in 2.1

But don't expect an official comment about this being true; they'd like to keep getting the bucks from all who may be confused, late to the party for information etc.

Yes, this is the 'progression model' SE has decided to follow.

What's the point of gear in any video game? If all you see is the gear, you need to stop and reevaluate why you're playing. You get the best gear in order to have a headstart on tackling new content with the next patch, but that's all it is. You play games for the content, not the gear, otherwise you'll just make yourself upset every time new gear is added because other people might get "your gear".

I know, right? I'm not trying to gear all of my job up for bragging rights or any of that nonsense. I do it because I think the game is fun. If I ever get to a point where I'm not having fun, I'll simply quit playing. I've just recently started doing coil and it doesn't bother me at all that the gear will be standardized in a month. I'm just having fun doing it.

First question : See uryell's answer, what about fun?
Second question : Why comparing the way you obtained it, to the way other people will? Just.....Why is it depressing you? Didn't you feel glad when you finally had it, like you achieved something (virtual, yes, but achieved yet)? Those people (myself included) probably won't. Plus, you just spent time in a game, had some rewards, and you will again be able to. I can't see "how" this is a problem actually.....Or are you just playing to show how big is yours? You will still be able to in the next patch, showing people you still have best gear before us cause your farmed more, you just have to fill the gap again.....And by they way, if you only play to show how big is yours, having to achieve it again should be a valid reason, isn't it?
