As a tank main, I find nothing wrong with tanks in their present form. I don't need to do giant dmg numbers to stroke my epeen. It's enough to know you wouldn't be doing ANY dmg if I wasn't holding the mob for you. It also feels pretty boss soaking up 5k+ crits and not folding up into a tiny ball on the ground (thank you for continuing to heal me).

The main reason you see so many complaints is because people honestly think ALL you are expected to do is the halone combo... there's several other skills that are in constant use, plus smart usage of your dmg mitigation cooldowns, plus being expected to be constantly aware of all party member's current location for mob positioning, plus holding hate off multiple melee that couldn't hit the same target to save their lives...You are usually the person expected to mark targets (provided there's anywhere left you'd actually NEED to at this point)

All this responsibility, and the ease of dropping and instantly getting another pt, turns a LOT of tanks into complete jerks. Personally, I haven't had many people throwing hateful comments my way, so that's not really an issue. The only thing I detest, is people seeing me in ilvl90 and automatically assuming I need/want to do speedruns in duty roulette. If you pull expecting me to SR you, expect to tank em yourself.

I agree with this, this is why I don't tank EX runs. I go on my BRD instead, which is a face roll. I understand SE put that mechanic there to make OT more required, however it's very tedious to count stacks on another player while managing other tanking aspects.

They should not have to bribe people to play a tank. Someone should play the job because they like it not because they are getting something. SE really dropped the ball making dungeons and fates (I hate fates) the only good way to level, of course there are leves but they give such low xp compared to how much you need to level and they run out pretty fast. There should be more open world content and or open dungeons. I am to the point I'm logging in less and less because I can't barely get a level on any jobs other than crafting (which I'm running out of,) this means I can't really fully enjoy a game I'm paying for.

^ This. I absolutely enjoy tanking when I am grouped up with my FC members and friends. When I use the DF I want to be anything, but a Tank. Most people in DF spend 20 minutes nitpicking every little thing I do, regardless if no one dies and I hold aggro without any issues. Or they want to throw in my face all their levels and how much better they claim to be at tanking than me and continue to trash talk me. Or they don't listen to me as the tank and don't follow marked targets and pull mobs before I even start my buffs or mark enemies. I mean I can still pull aggro back easily from them, but why make the tank's job that much harder when DPS cry about having long queue times?

If you want lower queue times and have more tanks, to me, its the player base itself that needs to change. Here is a cool thing to try, maybe communicate with each other about how you want to run the content your in, instead of just DPS doing whatever they like. Or actually help a tank instead of bashing them or talking down to them. Its simply just the way "Tanks" are treated that cause most people to avoid the role in general. From my experience if I screw up as a DPS not a single person even notices throughout any fight, and even if someone does notice no one harps on me or treats me the same way a Tank is treated. If a Tank makes one mistake or a DPS pulls mobs before you can do anything and dies from it, its suddenly the Tank's fault. I find it bizarre why people can't see or understand why everyone avoids being a Tank, except with friends or the few who just ignore it.

    I like this aspect.

    The calculation should include..

    *Amount of Mobs handled.
    *Duration of the Mobs.
    *HP of the mobs.
*Enmity put out by the players.
    *Damage Taken by tank.
    *Damage blocked by tank's skills
*Amount of HP lost by tank.

Enmity put out by tanks or how they use the ability should not matter if the above are taken into consideration.

Those category should combine to make a score. These scores are categorized by Ilv or some other category so we don't compare a full Allagan to full AF1.

I enjoy tanking...until some dps/healer thinks that they're Superman and decide to "help" by running ahead and bring back more mobs. Once is an accident, twice is stupidity, three times and I tell them "You spank it, you get to tank it." And then I sit back and watch them die a horrible death, hoping that a hefty repair bill will convince them to change their ways.

And unfortunately, this causes many newer tank players to give up and roll DPS since you won't get called out as much, and of course, makes the better tanks just not talk or even bother to read chat when they do use DF/PUG.

Well, I was focused on a specific point that I quoted from what Eardstapa said. The piece that I quoted was not altered, but was not everything he said. It was just what I felt held true for me as a Tank.

Really, i love to be a tank... I'm a sword and shield man at first, and never played an endgame MMO... So selected gladiator not knowing what a tank is in an MMO, but then i acknowledged my role. I'm a IlvV90 Paladin, I've done Coil T1-T4 and get all BiS from these, I'm now trying T5, I've killed all three Primal EX. I feel like a shiny diamond across an elite of fewer player (tanks, of course). It's for me a better incentive than any big DPS number...
