In my opinion, aetheryte only teleportation is a good middle-ground. The distance from a leve counter to the city's aetheryte isn't too far and it doesn't hinder other pieces of this game so much.
It's not that we've become accustomed to playing this game as it is, the ease of transport was a selling point. That one's game play wouldn't be hindered so much by travel like it was in XI. In XI, you needed someone with a WHM to tele, you needed to get a bird to get to camp...god forbid that the camp that yields the best XP is taken or extremely over-crowded, then you would have to hike somewhere else, then you would have to get everyone together, make sure they KNEW what their job entailed (because lets face it....we've all have had that person in our party that we have had to kick or replace because of some quirk they had with their job's play style and what we all expected from it in a group setting), there is 20 minutes of my time right there...no to mention the 30 minutes to an hour it took to actually ASSEMBLE the party.

So for someone with little play time, the mode of transportation works wonders for some, possibly many, and for others, see it as something as "too easy" and possibly for some or many lessens the fun of a video game...

Me personally, I don't find traveling for 20 minutes fun :/
