Currently, free warping removes any incentive to run anywhere.
With liable reasons being mining, fishing, logging or going to a new aetheryte.

During those expeditions, have you ever encountered other activities?
Such as spots for mob grinding? Caves to explore? When variety is added you could ponder on so much more.

Imagine randomly spawned chests or wandering arbitrary NPC's with a rare quest. Adventure to be had from the smallest things.

Running to an aetheryte increase our chance to experience such a said event.
Insta-teleporting reduces it completely. You miss out.
Since there is no inbetween now, what incentive do the devs even have to create a lucrative activity for taking a walk?

Kukurumei, you hit home with that line, I agree with you completely.

At any rate, I don't want to avoid my initial point.
As awkward as it sounds, when it takes time and or
labor to achieve something, in the end it becomes more worthwhile.
Even if it's a small 5 minute walk to a node.
It's a subtle satisfying feeling, that won't feel like some sort of chore after accomplished.

I'm sure I'm speaking for everyone when I say I would like every aspect of this game
    to be similar.

Sorel and Caerith, your said suggestions were ingenious.
They were inspiring ideas that I would like to append to the beginning. I hope you don't mind.
