Make us at least work for where we have to go.
Initially, you'll hear grumps; In the end we'll appreciate everything more.

    Edit:
I should state I'm not asking to get rid of anima/teleportation. I just believe it's beneficial for us and the game to actually make the aetherytes the only place where you are allowed to use anima/teleportation.

    Edit 2:
This change would be ideal for when other means of transportation are available. Airships, Chocobos, Boats...etc.etc.
I like it. But give us mounts first and then I'm all in. Good idea.

The Development Team just needs to modify transportation in FFXIV in this order.
    1. Add Chocobo Transportation that costs gil, moves at double normal run speed, and allows a player to get off anytime you wish.
    2. Add Airship Transportation that costs gil, moves at quadruple normal run speed, but only allows a player to get on or off at specific points.
    3. Allow players to set their home Aetheryte or Aetherial Node when they visit it.
    4. Remove the ability for a player to be teleported to an Aetheryte or Aetherial Node they've never personally visited.
    5. THEN restrict the Teleport command to only be used in the presence of an Aetheryte or Aetherial Node. The Return command will still take a player to their home Aetheryte.

Hopefully once they add birds and ships they will just get rid of the anima system completely and have mage teleports and OP warps that u pay gil to npc.

Currently, free warping removes any incentive to run anywhere.
With liable reasons being mining, fishing, logging or going to a new aetheryte.

During those expeditions, have you ever encountered other activities?
Such as spots for mob grinding? Caves to explore? When variety is added you could ponder on so much more.

Imagine randomly spawned chests or wandering arbitrary NPC's with a rare quest. Adventure to be had from the smallest things.

Running to an aetheryte increase our chance to experience such a said event.
Insta-teleporting reduces it completely. You miss out.
Since there is no inbetween now, what incentive do the devs even have to create a lucrative activity for taking a walk?

Kukurumei, you hit home with that line, I agree with you completely.

At any rate, I don't want to avoid my initial point.
As awkward as it sounds, when it takes time and or
labor to achieve something, in the end it becomes more worthwhile.
Even if it's a small 5 minute walk to a node.
It's a subtle satisfying feeling, that won't feel like some sort of chore after accomplished.

I'm sure I'm speaking for everyone when I say I would like every aspect of this game
    to be similar.

Sorel and Caerith, your said suggestions were ingenious.
They were inspiring ideas that I would like to append to the beginning. I hope you don't mind.

Thank you, and I don't mind at all

My name is a killing word.
(Seriously: "Caerith" was a forbidden name when I signed up on the forums.)

Eorzea should be a world, not a lobby.

Keyword here is When. By now there is no point to going anywhere. Because there is nothing to see.
But if you consider, grind spots worth to see. Then oh well... I'm definitly not.

I have a better idea. How about they revert to FF11 style of teleporting and allow only the Aetherytes teleport you back to town when arrived at the camp site. Add in a gil sink for the camps teleportation usage. The farther the camp from town the more expensive it gets.

This gives chocobos airships boats and other means of future transportation a purpose.

Or add region teleporters like Teleport-Dem in FFXI and we can continue our journy on a chocobo and gives theses abilities to conjurors or these would be abilities unlocked/quested as their unlocked job class.

They might just, as YoshiP mentions it wants to get closer back to "everquest" style for FF14.

Let's try to put it in 2 categories, one is "free roaming" the other is "quest hub". Right now is heavily a "quest hub". i.e. Mission based. Everquest style is an adventure style, where it's more a free roaming type.

I got an EVEN BETTER Idea lol

remove all teleportation by crystals and main menu, and let the White Mages (when they come in FFXIV) teleport us like in FFXI and the recast times will vary depending on the distance and amount of people porting. porting could be a high level spell.. that way people will have somthing to strive for.
