Quite true. But you don't really think the 1.18 dungeons will be the only new content released for the rest of the game's existence, do you?

No it won't be, but if they screw up party play in this update then we are going to be screwed out of party play for months until they release 1.19 or another patch to fix the fact that they screwed up party play. I kind of wish we could get some dev info on whether or not they will be announcing anything for party leveling and party play aside from dungeons which last 60 minutes and can only be done once every however many hours/days, because at this point they are making themselves, once again, look like they have no business developing an mmo, and have no idea what they are doing.
You have the right of it, unfortunately. I believe the community voted for more frequent but smaller updates over infrequent large updates. Thus far what we've gotten is infrequent small updates. No it won't be, but if they screw up party play in this update then we are going to be screwed out of party play for months until they release 1.19 or another patch to fix the fact that they screwed up party play. It will definitely take some adjusting, getting used to more solo style Guildleve content. I hope Guildleves are still viable in parties, as I play this game about 70% of the time in groups. The only things I do alone are the story missions, and some questing. It's quite common that I will get a small group and travel to Limsa, Ul'dah, or Gridania in order to partake in the quest content. I just enjoy group play, and I prefer Guildleve parties to grind parties. It doesn't take long to burn through 8 Guildleves when doing things solo.
I am reserving my real judgements though, until I see it in place. I'm even willing to wait until 1.19 to see the fruits of these bigger changes once they are completed. I'm trying to think bigger picture.
To accommodate this change, factors such as recommended/actual rank disparity, completion time, and partial participation will be made to influence the amount of points yielded.
I hope this will nip it in the butt the auto-follow crap that goes on.![]()
also partial rewards probably means if you try to change your class at the end of the leve, you may get less of the reward, much like when they count your kills when you do a leve as a different class than when you are getting marks.
As for those saying nerfing group play, i dont know... from what they say this will probably have the opposite effect. lowering base SP gains and giving you SP on completion, taking into considertation factors like difficulty, time to complete, etc seems to be rewarding party play more than solo. It means that beating a quest faster gives more sp (group advantage) and on a higher difficulty (group advantage) and they are also taking out the 4 link limit (bigger group bonus)
sooo uhh..... what about this reform is supposed to help solo players again?

My Threads: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/s...vBForum_Thread
this does help soloing a bit, i think, but the speed, rank difficulty, and leve linking limit going up will still mean the best sp will come from a leve linked high difficulty smashing of monsters.
but i guess it will come down to how much they boost the sp for difficulty/speed
and maybe also if they give everyone the sp, or divide the total SP amongst the party.
I think, depending on how much you are awarded, this will also add some interesting challenge to leves. Once again a reason to fight harder monsters, in leves anyhow.
but since this type of difficulty bonus doesnt exist in open world, i wonder if open world will still be unable to compete.
