Making gil is almost impossible on most servers

And yet, I manage to make several hundred thousand gil a week with only a couple of hours work and knowing what sells well.
No, I'm not going to share my secret with you but crafting/gathering is far from useless.

Anyway, apart from repairs and teleports there is absolutely no need, at all to carry large amounts of gil around.
From that perspective, the game vomits gil at you with dailies, treasure hunts and dungeons, that alone is enough to sustain you and have gil left for other things.

in all fairness though the markets are dictated buy the type of server if theres a lot of farmers craters etc the prices are dirty cheap forcing you to make lower and less profit than others hence you might make 200k others might be lucky making 50k with just the same amount of time spent crafting gathering etc!!!
