Yikes, I'm sorry-- it is process three that you want to hit... you'de want to set skips to 2. I owe Coldfire some fish or cookies or something for calling him on it ><' ( they'll arrive once SE puts in mailboxes... so like... next year? xD ) :P But, your problem is defo not gfx-card related, 100% sure. You would see everything 'freeze,' not like just your character standing still and stuff--you would notice that absolutely no pixels are changing, the mouse won't move, etc if it was a gfx-card problem

How does it run without the second laptop turned on?

Ohhh... here's an idea-- try checking to see if any of the ffxiv ports are open while it's not running... maybe another program on the desktop is trying to talk on those channels

If you have anything like bittorrent or microtorrent running in the background, those programs are very good at utilizing nearly 100% of your available bandwidth. Just because your not downloading doesn't mean it won't update trackers and such in the background. I've had similar problems with microtorrent where it would randomly spike and hog a ton of bandwidth, making something as simple as checking a webpage delayed.

Check port numbers on those programs as well, and set it to a known port # that's not in use if it's randomized.
FFXIV uses similar p2p functionality i think, and that might be a possible source of the problem (I'm not too versed on p2p protocols, but I see a setting in config that says 'UPnP'). From what I know, UPnP is a standard for media-sharing programs.

As extra precaution, change your torrent programs to a port outside of the ffxiv range (55296-55551), then seed every torrent you've ever downloaded in order to report to the trackers your new port number. If you downloaded something ages ago using a port that ffxiv uses, that tracker might be listing you as a seeder and clients from everywhere would be trying to send requests via that port--even if you're not seeding. Though, usually trackers get 'cleaned' often to remove people that haven't connected for awhile.

    Cheers

Only the FFXIV updater uses bittorrent and those ports. The game itself uses TCP and random ports. Running "netstat" in powershell or cmd shows the connections (but not the threads using them). Process Explorer (Microsoft tool) can show that though, if you are interested in finding out what ports the game uses.
