Pro's
Cut-scene's- This was a big surprise for me. The CS's seem to be apart of some story elements which tie in with the Grand Companies. We can see Garlean troops wondering through the dungeons, you can also read about them in the brief summary we were given on the Grand Companies page. I do hope however, the motion animations are touched up on in future patches.
Multiple path's- If what SE originally stated about multiple forks in the road still stands, then this is for sure a pro. Those blue teleporting devises look fairly common, this might point towards various paths players will have to choose from. That screams replay value. However, I hope these blue devises aren't common amongst other dungeons, I'd like to see other means of choice.
Difficulty/traps- SE has stated officially that instanced raids will be difficult. With that being said, we can expect team-work to play a huge factor, and FFXIV really needs that. The "traps" the dev. team speaks of seem to point towards the flying Ahriman we see in the trailer. Anytime we are too close to these guys they seem to blow-up/fart an 8 thousand damage AoE, which can completely wipe out your whole party. Hopefully we see more throughout the dungeon.
Con's
Reused monsters- This doesn't seem too big of a deal, but the general census rules it more negative than positive. Using mobs that are generally from the region, and especially fit for the climate of the dungeon are all good, however, I feel players are really hoping to see something new and epic. I can't really say SE won't deliver that yet though, it's too early.
First come, first serve- I haven't read too many positive comments on this one. I think players expected a que feature of some sort. I don't know exactly how this is going to thumb out, but I'm interested to see if it works with the general public.
Rewards- So far we haven't seen anything out of the ordinary. Reused gear designs with alternate statistics don't really cut it for some players. Being an important feature in the game, I think players are expecting big things in terms of rewards. Hopefully SE will deliver and the gear we have been shown is only the tip of the ice burg.
All in all, I give my initial opinion on the trailer an 8/10.
There is great lore behind their appearance, they have cut scenes with multiple players involved within the scenes(which is a huge bonus), they look cool, and they seem to have a good replay value stapled to them.
These are all things FFXIV really needs, and I'm glad the dev's. appear to have got it right.
