I do like the idea of matte and gloss dyes. Could be useful for rough cloth and shiny armor respectively.

Matte/Gloss would be nice and easy (as they're already sitting ready to go)
Although it'd be rather difficult, someone suggested to me patterned dyes (like the militia harness/subligar) using a big-cat print.
Lots of room for exansion (however some might be more difficult than others)
However material layers are much easier to implement in games now, applying a "tiled pattern" effect to gear might be rather easy (just a time consuming task to get right). Could make for some rare/interesting dyes on the market (similar to Guild Wars 2 where true Black/White dyes are a fortune).
Greetings,
We checked with the Graphics team to see if there was anything shady going on regarding this, and they wanted us to pass along their reasoning as to why the appearance of gear changes after being dyed.
Metal equipment was created to have an enamel-like look to it when it is dyed, just like if you painted something metallic in real life. Similarly, cloth equipment was also designed to function the same way as real life, so the texture changes when it is dyed because the cloth is soaking up the dye.
As both types of equipment were created like this intentionally, the team does not have any plans to change the textures.

That really is a shame that they'd be so finicky about something like that, seems like a total waste of the shader effects that are there in the first place ;--;.Greetings,

Ah well...

Well, that is awful...Greetings,

No offense to the team, but I think there's a pretty big consensus that the extra effort to make dyed equipment look different from undyed in aspects other than color was wasted. I suppose I can see where they were going with it, but it's an odd stance to take considering the real world impossibilities of repeatedly dying something or using the same dyes on any material you come across, even steel. Keeping the look of the shader the same should be easier than what they are currently doing and would produce results that I think most of the player base would find more appealing.Greetings,

You should tell your graphics team that this is a stupid "feature"Greetings,

Add a gloss item to the game so people can get the shiny look back. Problem solved and the art team can keep their rationale intact.Greetings,

I found it's weird that the team decide to go with the 'real life' path when this game is called 'Fantasy', especially that would require more work and make it less pretty. Well I guess it's now too late for this issue, but I hope they can be more careful (or less careful in this matter) for the future content. This is Final Fantasy! No unnecessary reality needed here!
I do not like this "realistic feature" of losing glow on armours and clothes. I think it looks just bad, not realistic. When I first saw it I thought my armour changed from metalic to plastic.
I'm all in the request for leaving shaders where they were after dyeing our equipment. I don't want enamel-like armour and soaked clothes!
