    Invisible Belts

    I'm more curious than anything...

Our graphics artists go so far into detail as to include different earring/ring models for our characters, but the belt doesn't show at all? What's the reasoning?

Regardless, it bothers me a bit and I'm bored so I figured I'd make a thread about it. Any plans to let us see our belts in the future?

Belts were visible in 1.0. It was changed so that belts are now part of the body piece graphics, I'm guessing to make them more consistent with the armor style.

While visible belts would be neat... it's even nicer to have one less thing to worry about matching.

Yeah, SE stated that belts were added to armour to allow their artists greater flexibility to designing armour without having to worry about making sure belts don't 'clip' with clothing/armour models. I do miss having them visible though - tabards especially look silly without a belt tied around the waist, or maybe I just got used to seeing my character wearing tabards with them in 1.0. Ah well.

    Waist Gear
Waist gear will no longer be visible in FFXIV: ARR.

We have concluded that displaying waist gear separately not only limits the ability of our artists to create new designs, but also complicates the methods used to display equipped gear. Therefore, in order to more efficiently create new gear for players to enjoy, we have decided to merge waist gear graphics with matching gear graphics.

    Example:
Cobalt plate belt graphics will be added to cobalt cuirass graphics.

Existing waist gear graphics will not be removed from game. However, equipping and removing waist gear will no longer change your character’s appearance.

As a result of thinking about what could be done to fulfill the above objectives all while converting everything over and optimizing all the data by completely remaking the graphics engine, we decided to reduce the cost by simplifying items that were too complex when making them. One aspect of this was the graphical display of waist equipment.

Basicall as Faedden said: to simplify things and free up time/graphical resources. They gave the exact same reason for flattening our butts.

Partly that, and I speculate the deformation system that existed in the Crystal Tools engine no longer exists, and they would have to reform every belt on every armor manually.
