    After FIRST airship travel

I completely lvl 14 main quest, received airship pass.

I WANTED to go to Ul'dah, BUT it sent me straight to Limsa Lominsa without asking me where I wanted to go.

Once I landed in Limsa Lominsa, I tried to board airship again, but it says I need an airship pass. I thought I just HAD ONE HOW ELSE COULD I HAVE GOTTEN HERE?!

So, what, gods save me, what do i have to do to use the airship again?

    Thank you.

You have to visit the other two cities in order before returning to your home city, you get your pass after traveling around. For now you are only getting special permission to travel for diplomatic stuff.

Ok, but how can I visit Ul'dah if I can't use the airship? I believe Limsa is an island, correct? I can't even run to Ul'dah. I 'returned' to Gridania to the crystal, then tried to use the airship from there and it will only allow me to visit Limsa ... how the hell do I go to Ul'dah?

Look at your quest log, you should be on the Diplomatic quest where you need to talk to the leaders of each city, and Limsa is your first stop.

    1. You can run there from Gridania, they are both on the main land
    2. Take the boat from Limsa. Board it by the archanist guild and it will take you to Horizon, then run to town

That's part of the story quest - you have to travel to Limsa Lominsa first and speak with Merlwyb, then you'll travel to Ul'dah and speak with Raubahn, and then back to Gridania to speak with Kan-E-Senna. Once you finish the quest in your home city, you'll be given the Airship Pass permanently and the ability to travel freely to all three City States.

Actually, you don't head back to your home city (in your case, Gridania) after speaking to the other two nations - the quest automatically completes after the second nation's leader is visited and airship travel is unlocked automatically at this point (it mentions this via an on-screen message: "AIRSHIPS NOW AVAILABLE" or something.) If you started in Gridania, that quest ends by speaking to Bartholomew at the entrance to the Fragrant Chamber in Ul'dah, who also has the next quest 'Call of the Sea' for the player to undertake.
