This is completely different! This is old school MLP! I'm not really much into the current Brony fad because it ruined my image of the original. Which I think Chezen's sig was hinting at too, the preference to the older style.
Did OG MLP have an evil enchantress who does evil dances?

Eorzea should be a world, not a lobby.

Back on topic...
There are a lot of people who live for endgame dungeons and gear, and it would be easy for FFXIV to follow that route. But as was kinda hinted at in another topic, doing what everyone else does, even if they manage to do it a little better, will not keep FF on top of the gaming world. Course, now I'm getting into whether people think FFXIV is even capable of that, but that's beside the point.
This is something devs still have time to plan for. As many say, it just depends on what they plan, like anything.

I wouldn't like the level cap raising often either. I strongly dislike how WoW does this too.
S-E needs to develop more ways to progress than just in levels. That's all XIV is right now: level up, change class, level up.
Here's an idea:
Create an area, a large area, perhaps an entire continent or dimension, that is under enemy control. Maybe use the Echo and create a dark age that's been tainted by something evil long in the past. Think of it as Dynamis-Eorzea, except instead of a dream it's a tainted version of the past, with no time limit and it's open to anyone who can use Echo to go back that far.
FFXI had Conquest every week, letting players temporarily conquer areas so they could get the Outpost Warp there. So do something bigger. Take this Echo dark past and let players uncorrupt it bit by bit: rescue the areas, the regions, take back fallen cities, etc. As areas get uncorrupted, new resources for crafters appear to create new special armor, NPCs show up in the conquered cities with nifty abilities, etc. At the heart of it all is the source of the corruption, the ultimate showdown to save this area in the past, and when the players take it down, you raise the level cap.
Give us one big challenge, something all the hardcore players can work towards, something that'll take months to complete, and lock us at level 60 until someone, on some server, wins. Then up the level cap to 65 and give us a new challenge, a new period in time to conquer, etc.
Of course, with each new challenge, you gotta have dungeons, new NMs, new crafting supplies that can be gathered, etc. At the heart of it all, have an ultimate dungeon for when people finally reach the ultimate level cap of 100 or whatever.
(Give us something to do!)

I want this game to go to 99.
And not after 10 years.
