Chocobo leveling help ( not guide )

After i finally decided to unlock the chocobo companion i tried to level it, to no avail after killing dozen of mobs of every level ( including fates ) my choco companion hasn't even gotten 1 exp lol i think.
    It just says 0/100 .
Or am i looking at the wrong thing on the companion screen?

Chocobo's are granted 25% of the XP you would get yourself from a kill. So if you got 100 XP for your character, it would get 25 XP itself. Keep in mind that a Chocobo actually TAKES XP away from you, for itself. So for my example, 100 XP for you and 25 for the Chocobo, means if it was not summoned, you would have gotten 125 XP.

The XP notation in the battle log appears somewhat odd to say the least.

Your personal experience is as follows:
    "You gain <amount> (<percent>%) <class> experience points."

Your Chocobo's experience gain is as follows:
    "You gain <amount> experience points."

You only get credit for kills that you claim, and it has to be high enough to give you experience, I think within 10 levels of you, so unless you are one of those black mages that does nothing but runs around spamming blizzard 2 for claim and letting everyone else kill stuff for you, fates are going to be a horrible place to level your bird.

Oh and the enemies health bar and name tag MUST be red. If it is pink, that is not tagged as yours and you will gain nothing from it. And neither will your pet.

That is entirely wrong, like the guy above you also stated. You don't need to have the claim as long as you contribute enough dmg to the claimed Mob, you will get Exp as well.

So as long as you tag it, it will be red for you.

It does not need to be tagged and red, as long as you contribute enough damage,
even if some one else has claim (purple) you can still get credit. this is actually a
method people use to level their birds in groups of more than 4 people. Let one party
claim and the other finish the mobs.

Since we are talking about leveling a Chocobo, relying on doing enough damage to a pink tagged mob is unreliable at best. Therefore it is far better to make sure the enemy health bar and name tag are red to almost guarantee credit for the kill.

And also, attempting to tag another groups kills is not so much a good idea as you will only aggravate those in that group. Plus it is not very polite to the victim of this.

The reason i brought this up is because its the best way for 2 groups of 4 people to level their chocobos "together"
If you've never done it, that's alright, I'm sure a lot of people don't know of this method. Its for 8 people to work together.
1 group of 4 claims, the other group finishes mob. Its actually the best way to level. I'm not saying to go fight mobs complete
strangers have claimed. Its not unreliable at all, and a popular thing to do.

Have you ever done it? It seems to me like you are simply guessing. No matter in which Fate i go, i just dps/aoe everything regardless of being tagged or not and the exp boosts up like there is no tomorrow. it is really hard to NOT get credit for a tagged mob, unless it has like ~10% health when you start attacking.

Aggravate people in a different Group? How lol?.. You are helping them killing their mobs and since they had initial claim the get credit regardless of how much they've contributed. There is no disadvantage for the group, just for you because there is a really, really small risk you will not get 100% Credit for it and you will not get "items", which only applies to openfield mobs. Has nothing to do with being polite, since this is not XI were "stealing" actually would have an negative impact on the other group, in XIV it does not.

If i claim a group of Mobs in a Fate and i see people start fighting it, then i will leave those mobs alone. Because i will get credit regardless, but i also give those people the chance to get credit as well. THAT is what i call polite, since i am helping those people. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that and tbh i never heard/saw anyone complaining if you attack THEIR claims. There is simply no reason to.
