    Fingerprint scanner and login.

I had a thought that just occurred to me.

I am running the game on a HP laptop (yeah, silly me, but i cant afford Alienware.. /cry..), and it has a fingerprint scanner that i rarely use, only to log onto windows.

For those of us that have such devices, would it not be much easier to use a fingerprint scanner to log into the game and forum, than having to constantly type in password AND security code?

I know it sounds lazy, but it is just an idea.
Maybe SE could implement this idea as another security measure.

Like i said just an idea..

Considering maybe 0.01% of people have a fingerprint scanner, I dont see why they would put in the effort.

Pretty sure the software those things use can be set up to enter a hash corresponding to your fingerprint. So you should be able to do it already.

The software provided with your fingerprint scanner should include a 'password safe' type feature that would allow you to login by swiping your finger. I do not have a built in one but had one years ago and the software provided with it gave me the ability to do what you suggest.

There is no way for Squenix to validate you are who you say you are via your Fingerprint scanner unless you uploaded your fingerprint to them after logging into your account manually to validate that you own the account and that is your fingerprint. With that being said I would have no desire to upload my fingerprint to every website i wished to log in to.

How hard it is to type a 10-20 characters?

The laziness in this thread is too damn high.

    Sad and true 'cause I have one. Not my choice, as I wasn't the one that picked out the PC, but beggers can't be choosers. Once I had the money saved up, I was just going to replace the mobo & cpu when the mobo on my old PC went out, but my mother decided to get me a whole new PC for my birthday/Christmas 3 years ago. My oldest brother picked the low-end "Dellienware". I guess my mother didn't want to have to share her laptop for however many months it would have taken me to save up for a new motherboard & cpu. Anyway, I've already had to replace the RAM & power supply because they were sub-standard (and a bloody miracle that the power supply could even turn the thing on). Next is the video card as it's just some crappy stock Dell video card, not even the video card that was advertised to come with it. But that's a rant for a different thread and not even on topic. Ha ha. ^_^;

As to the topic: I don't see that they would as there probably isn't much of a demand for it. I'm not really sure how that would work. I'd expect to see an app for Windows phones first.

Like i said, it was just an idea. No need to get all high and mighty.
I dont mind the password and security number side of it. I like the security.
I guess some peeps just don't like ideas (no matter how silly/mundane/useless, or good for that matter) unless they are their own.

    Have A Nice Day...

    Thanks for the replies guys.

I know it was just a mundane question, but at least it wasn't a whinge fest.

And yeah, i hear ya on the Alienware stuff, that just popped into my head as an example
of something better than what i currently got lol.

    Cheers all.
    Good Hunting.

Asus makes really good gaming laptops... and they aren't crazy overmarked like Alienwares are. I currently play the game on high laptop settings (on a 1080p external monitor) without issue. I bought this laptop in 2011, too.

Anyway, about the OP... I think the fingerprint scanner is cool, but like others have said, it's really not a common thing to find on laptops. I wouldn't be surprised if mobile authenticators start coming out with the functionality for eye scanning (the cameras will eventually be good enough and you can't fake an eyeball scan). That will be quite a few years away, though.
