    lol @ OP

I can't believe anyone would find the current death penalty to be excessive, or even barely more than a hindrance. You died. This means you failed. AKA you did something you shouldn't have done. Try playing FFXI with it's 10% exp loss upon death.

If anything they should introduce a greater death penalty so we can see less "Leeroy" players and more strategic and alert players. Right now no one gives a shit because you can just die all willy-nilly and it costs you nothing but 3 minutes of "weakness" in which you can still fight reasonably in most cases.

Play the game for more than 30 minutes before you decide something is flawed. You haven't even experienced the instances in which the death penalty is needed to avoid exploits. GG.

An overall summary of what you said is "I don't like when others play in a manner that does not suite me. For they cheapen their gaming experience by "zombeing" through leves while I take the time to strategize in order to complete leves." That seems to be the overall theme. Because other gamers are "exploiting" the game in a manner that doesn't pleases you, they should be penalize to prevent them from playing the game in that manner. In reality, they have found a strategy that works for them.

Am I condoning this strategy? Not necessarily but, if instead of punishing these gamers I reward gamers who choses to play more "skillfully" thus encouraging the behavior of playing good instead of playing "bad". As I have said previously, deducting time from the clock when you die is a far better strategy than just waiting around for three minutes.

Yoshida has already stated he doesn't believe in EXP loss for the penalty death... he even said it in the most recent letter. The death penalty may not be steep now, but he has also said there are plans for equipment damage penalties in the future.

Copying and pasting from another thread.

Idea for a penalty if you all really want one.

    1. 75% Movement speed reduction.
    2. Blood Rite effect
    3. All Abilities used in weakness become 10 Minute cool-downs.
    4. Anima cost returning upon death -10 Anima cost.
    5. All stats reduced to 1 underweakness.
    6. Enmity greatly increased when near an engaged enemy over time.

This will make zerging hard, and death warping negated.

With the blood rite effect if you have 100 hp and you attack the mob, you'll lose 10 hp. If you have 10 hp left and you attack again, boom your dead again even if the mob doesn't attack. If you're bleeding a lot and you move around, what happens, you make the injury worse.

Making cooldown last longer when weakened, will definitely keep anyone from zerging a monster. And with stats reduced to one why bother attack anyway. Just by standing near the mob it will know you're weak and will want to kill you, so after standing near it long enough it will turn towards you even if the tank has had hate for a while.

Seriously, for you all that complain for a penalty that you lose sp and rank. I hope, HOPE, everyone who asks for it gets their rank reduced to rank 1 again, and lose all your items/gil. Because the idea of this debt is flipping retarded. I mean I have seen some pretty bad ideas in threads or people saying really dumb (I do too, I am not leaving myself out of this). SP/Rank loss, anyone who agrees with this, you need help.

Make it a debt at worst. You die enough you get like a 600k sp debt. You get 300 sp, 150 goes to your rank, the other goes to the debt. And before anyone says "Oh what about max ranked people, it won't affect them". It won't right now, but if they bring a merit system for the max ranked people they will suffer from it as well.

If my example of debt sucks, and you can't understand it. Look up Everquest online Adventures for the PS2 not Everquest I or II for the pc. Read how there debt system worked.

Dont see what the blood rite effect will do for a penalty, I dont remember losing HP while using blood rite. Maybe youre thinking about a different buff/debuff :P.

but losing 10 anima when dying will sure make people fight smarter and harder. I would vote for that one as a penalty.

I disagree with your opinion that the death penalty is "Bit steep," and would say the complete opposite as it is rather lenient.
I think the point is it isn't wise to include a feature in a fantasy game simply because it is realistic. Just as deciding against something because it is unrealistic is silly. Lalafell do not add a sense of realism to the game, and yet we love them, right?

    Equipment damage is very sensible.

I can say the same. If you want a game with harsher DP then go play games with harsher DP. But what would be the point of that statement if we are talking about FFXIV?
