On FFXI the best deal was to craft your own ammo, sell 50%(or 25%) and use the others 50%(or 75%) and your money never drop down (it goes up sometime ^^).

Yeah just craft your own, I have a weaver friend who makes fletching and he is also a goldsmith in order to level his goldsmithing I give him Corals that aren't the ones i need for my bow making. I never feel arrow strain, don't be lazy every archer needs to be a carpenter, really who else is going to repair your bow or make arrows for you.
Silver arrows went from 50 gil each to 33 gil each on my server
/happy
I did an excel work for arrows prices, i gathered price from bazaar in the market ward and i found the Glu was the most overpriced item in sale (almost 90% of the arrows cost) everything else was cheap or free (you can easily gather craft items).
Only HQ arrows will grant a good benefit.

Ifyou have any intrest in crafting crp will benfit you alot or hopfully you have a friend that will do them for free for you, ive been amking them for myself anf friends and selling them for about 60k on lindblum, doesnt seem to many peeps doing it so ive been able to keep it resonable enough, still a steady enough income for myself without feeling too greddy and evil, Luckly i had a goldsmith and weaver in my Linkshell.
The money you make compared to the cost of crafting arrows is fairly high its hard to go wrong with doing it, since i make them for myself im not sure how others feel about it too much, feel sorry if your servers is overpriced.~

back in the day when no one was making arrows, i sold blue at 200g each and red at 300g each lol.
The mats are not a common drop. And the mats generally come from a total of 6 sources. To fix this i strongly believe making it so that one synth will yield a full stack of 999 arrows, and/or get rid of glue from the synth.
Alchemy: Glue
Ahriman Wing for wing glue, typically you can go some 4+ fights without a single wing dropping. and the lowest level Ahrimans can be is like R36. Ahriman wings sell for 16k on Cornelia server, to make 96 wing glue you will need 8 wings totaling 128k. Then theres the other wings that need to be added, 4x puk wings or 3x imp wings.
Botany: Branches/moko grass/some feathers
Whether its arrowwood or cedar, someone needs to go out there and cut some trees. The yarn needs to come from somewhere right? Start cutting that grass.
Combat classes: Buzzard/cockatrice/vulture feathers.
Bringing the meat home for a plucking. The drop rate of feathers is not as high as it should be, considering that the whole bird is covered with feathers.
Fishing/Mining: Mats for your arrow heads.
From Copper/Tin for bronze, iron ore into iron nuggets. White/Blue/Red Coral, the two colored corals are not an easy catch only common in grade 3+ fishing areas.
Weaver: Feathers into Fletching and Hempen Yarn from moko grass
Fletching difficulty varies with the feather thats used but Vulture Fletching is an R40 synth. Hempen yarn is a low level synth with very limited use, you should be able to find this cheap, but how often do you see it being sold?
Goldsmithing/Blacksmithing: Arrowheads
Someone's gotta carve or hammer out those Arrowheads right?
Carpentry: Making the arrowshaft and the Final Product.
The last step. Having fletching training goes a long way.
The fact that all these parts come from different sources and are made by several different crafts, makes arrows expensive. The only time you will see these cheap if 1 player is doing the gathering and the synthing to all parts by themselves.
The dev's can ease the burden by making 1 synth yield a full stack of 999 arrows. Or get rid of some mats of the synth itself.
please check out my Archer video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BUeieGTXX4
90k for a 1k arrows stack isn't expensive. It would mean around 9k for a 100 arrows stack, pretty similar to what we saw in FFXI for good ammo.
People still gets scarred about prices, but forgetting they have an extra "0" from what they were in FFXI. People may saw "but here you do 333 arrows in 1 synth" but here you also use a decent amount of materials, including some infamous glues that ckick the price up. I might be wrong since there's some time since i last bought them, but wing glue is supposed to be 5~10k a pop, which already put 15~30k at stack price since you need 3 per stack. Cockatice, swan and eagle fletchings are also kinda expensive (not as expensive as glue tho).
Anyway...IMO 90k a stack, depending of the arrow, is fair enough....and no, i'm not a carpenter that sells arrow =P
Only depend on your playtime, someone that play a lot will pay more for a day that someone that play 1~2h per day.
90k isn't expensive, it is when you have a lot of playtime as Archer.

The difference is that in FFXI, in a normal exp/merit party, I'm using roughly 5 arrows per mob, give or take. In XIV, I use more than that in the first 10 seconds (3 from opening Multishot, 2-ish for TPing, then 4 for Barrage).
You can't compare ammo volume in XIV to XI. Every bow in XIV is significantly faster than the fastest ranged weapon in XI.
