    Arrow Prices!

Has anyone else noticed how overpriced stacks of higher ranked arrows have become on the servers?

In Besaid silver arrows sell for like 90k per stack! Other types are just as bad for price. Does SE really want all archers to have to rank up 3-4 different crafting classes just to make our own arrows?

Or is this all a simple matter of crafters being greedy?

I'm ranking up classes for arrows for pretty much this exact reason.

The trend I'm seeing, however, is that a lot of people just use Warped Arrows for leveling, and don't bother busting out the stronger ones except for NMs and other particularly challenging content.

I agree with this assessment. I think part of being an archer is taking the time to craft your own arrows, otherwise it is not worth putting so much effort in leveling it, in my opinion. I don't having to constantly be dependent on others to get arrows, especially since archer goes through them so quickly.

I also don't think the higher leveled arrows are worth using for regular use.

It's actually not too hard leveling for crafting arrows. Start crafting arrow parts and material, and as you accumulate material to craft you arrows, you skill rank goes up (and with some support from local levequests).

Hmm, I'm not sure I agree with the above Nekocop.

I love Archer (I player RNG as my main for 3 years in FFXI), but I have little personal interest in levelling woodworking to get myself cheap arrows (I'm already spending my time and gil on levelling ALC and CUL). I think making your own arrows is a nice thing, but I don't think that if you don't you're not playing an Archer properly.

The issue here is supply and demand. Because a lot of Archers do not want to spend their gil on a regular basis, they use cheap Warped Arrows instead of the arrow closest to their rank. As a result, those crafters who take the time and effort to make higher level arrows (and having been supplied by woodworkers from within my own LS, I've seen how difficult it can be to get some feathers...etc...to make these higher arrows) are finding they cannot sell them in high enough quantities, and as there aren't many woodworkers selling these higher arrows (as they don't bother making them as the demand isn't high enough), you don't get the "price war" and undercutting you otherwise get when a lot of people are selling the same thing.

So as far as I can see, this is a problem partly created by us Archers in the first place. While it's frustrating to see stacks of arrows are high/ridiculous prices, those crafters can and will charge what they want because they don't have to compete in price with lots of other crafters.

So either Archers need to start buying arrows again other than Warped Arrows, or go and level woodworking (not exactly a cheap or quick option either).

It's times like this I'm glad my LS has multiple crafters of each craft so we can help each other out. All members submit materials they pick up from their travels to the LS Bank so the crafters can use them to make stuff. No prices are charged to members for making something for them (short of a high level uber-item, and even then it's only to cover mats), and what goes around comes around. I think this is the best way of preventing yourself from being caught by these situations.

Seeing that I am sometimes in game waiting for LS members to get into game or I am farming mats to hopefully get someone to make an HQ piece of hear, I am usually busy gathering mats like Red/Blue Coral or feathers so that the crafter that makes my arrows will level up on what I gather and I get my arrows and repeat the cycle. This is the thing I love about my LS is that we have a great system of supply and demand, in which we have no shortage of crafters and suppliers.

Mysidia has 35K average for a stack of Silver Arrows and 50K for Red Arrows.

I'm gonna say crafters in Besaid are either greedy or RMT. I am an r37 Arc from Mysidia, and I generally use Obsidian arrows as my general purpose ammunition, mostly because I can craft them when I have the materials, but also because I can buy them from the Centuar's eye in Gridania when I don't. I have an Armored Calvary bow, so I'm not worried about not doing enough damage. Since I can craft them, I often grind them out in large quantities whenever I have the materials, and of those, I'll keep some for my own use, and sell the rest, usually at around 30 gil per arrow, or whole sets for 30k. I've had people tell me that they aren't worth crafting, and that they would never sell, but I actually made my first million gil this way, and without being a greedy jackhole. People will always flock to a crafter who can sell for less than his/her contemporaries, so it will force other players to compete for customers, often by selling at a reduced price.

I recomend for all archer to lvl up Carpenter. goldsmith and cloth crafts. Buy the glue and make your own arrows. Really the prices are silly since the mats are easy to come by. Ask someone to craft for you, but remmeber to search for the mats.
