So 1.0 non-legacy players that own a standard XIV copy (not CE) can only get the in-game items if they use the digital upgrade, but if they want the physical and digital stuff they need to buy the ps3 version?

Yep ~_~ There's a workaround if you buy the PS3 CE but you can't attach an ARR PC CE (either physical or download) code to any previously existing service account unless you spend the extra $20 on a digital upgrade as well. We're hoping they'll find an alternate solution for this or long term FFXIV fans are going to be burnt yet again (first on 1.0 release, now on ARR release).
Edit: Also the same applies regardless of whether you're a legacy player or not.
