I think so too, in the Alpha videos shown with Yoshi playing you could see him opening the equipment, inventory, and social windows simultaneously.

You're right. After reading your translation again, that's exactly what it sounds like. I do remember hearing that we're able to finally alt+tab without crashing the game, so I provided the right answer to the wrong question lol.
