The FB profile is legit look at his friend list and you'll see familar SE staff names.

+ now posted on the JP side of FFXIV forum under thread cheering YoshiP telling him it must be hard that mentioned guy is gone from the company.

はい、他の人のチョコボと同じ名前でも付けることができます。
Yes, you can name the Chocobo same

「記号（数字）」は可能なのか？スペース（空白）にハイフンやアンダーバー、星（★）やコロンや括弧等。
Can you enter special characters, numbers, space?

半角英字のみ使用できます。記号や数字、スペースなどは使用できません。
You can only name them in English, special characters, numbers, and space cannot be used.

「大文字、小文字の区別」は可能か？例：「Chocobo」や「choCOBo」など、途中文字、後半文字にも大文字指定が可能かどうか。
Can you use Caps/Lower mixed? example Chocobo or choCOBo having Caps in the middle?

PC名と同様に、最初の一文字が自動で大文字になり、それ以降の文字は小文字になります。
Just like PC name first letter will be capitalized rest will be in lower case.

Can others see the Chocobo's name?

チョコボの頭上にネームプレートなどは出ませんが、騎乗した際、チョコボから降りた際に、ログが表示されます。
そのため、ログを確認することで、他人のチョコボの名前がわかります。
There will be no name plate displayed over Chocobo's head but when mounting or dismounting it will show up in the log.
For that reason by checking the log you can find out other peoples Chocobo names.

なお、今回登場するマイチョコボはすべてオスです。
ぜひ素敵な名前をつけてあげてください！
All the Chocobo's coming out this time are male.
