Exactly and this is the problem with random person making claims about the damage calculation based on "some thread" where "testing was done".

Depending how the damage calculation works STR could affect mitigation, could be checked against the enemy's VIT, could be a multiplier of attack and damage... there is a lot of possibilities which are true of different MMO damage calculations. It could be figured out by players, but that would require extensive parsing. Much more than has been posted on this forum certainly due to the RNG, and not some solo dope whacking low level mobs either as doing that completely ignores the effects of mob level/defense/etc. on mobs where stats actually might matter.

It would be better if SE hinted to us what role STR and ATK play as this has clearly changed as of 1.19 (when STR was only marginally effective, and ATK was the only proven relevant stat to damage). Yoshida specifically said that this type of information should be provided, information which was not visible or easily deducible by the community and which has a direct impact on long term decisions regarding gear/materia/and possibly millions of gil.

So on topic, like the original person Reinhart was responding to I'd like some clarification (though I can already tell you STR and ATK are not directly related, increasing one does not increase the other). Maybe there is some hint in one of the translations that might indicate the possible role of these attributes other than that merely affect damage in "some way"?
