I feel like that's far too personal of a decision to paint with such a broad stroke.

From what it sounds like, the article rein linked to suggests that they would be closing down the servers for 1.0 before beginning alpha testing. Implying that the tests wouldn't start at all until the servers were brought down. so delaying the server down date would only delay the testing even more.

That seems to contradict previous information we've received, though. so hopefully the article just printed inaccurate information.

From what Yoshida said during the 25th anniversary event it sounded like alpha testing should have already started or should be starting at the end of september.

(the video said "end of this month" but the video actually went live near the end of August.)

It was my understanding, even before the 25th anniversary event that they would begin alpha testing, then when they progressed to Beta testing the servers would come down, they'd begin the character transfers and hopefully by the time that was finished the game would be leaving beta and be ready to launch.

But one of the joys of this game has consistently been the inaccuracies and ambiguities of all the news originating in a foreign language and needing to be translated.

Nothing broad about it, nothing too personal too.
I simply said it is what it is.
In terms of if you're playing right now, you will be interested in playing 2.0 if its comes in january or march.
As in assumption, the whole "lost interest and downtime" thing IS an assumption.

When XI and XIV got knocked offline due to the natural disaster that struck Japan people didn't lose interest or not come back. Some people will lose interest sure, but that's common with anything.

I'm so glad to see that point about the free companies being able to enlist many players. I really thought it was set at 4 to a FC (which wouldn't make a lot of sense at first because of the Primal acquisiton...) I was worried, honestly, that it was going to become something of an exclusive sort of thing to a small group of friends. I have friends, a great shell, but not really a 'set' of which I would create a static FC for in that manner. So I like this.

Now..one thing though, maybe I just missed it. FC's are formed by going to a GC and creating it. But is it limited to which GC you go to start it, is there any limitations that would come from multiple of GC types being inside the FC and will being created from any particular GC grant a particular bonus to your FC that another one wouldn't? Those are the things I ponder.

This is old news. We learned back at E3 that the servers would be going down for several months. It's unfortunate, but necessary.

I'm sure they'll do things to keep the community engaged during the downtime.
