agreed it seems kinda silly to have things region specific it's like they're trying to segregate the players which makes no sense at all due to it being an online game. Unless they're doing it for a specific reason as for like average player base and want to know how many people in what regions play this game.... then that I can understand but the codes shouldn't be like that

Could be but what was sad is NA version of the game came with the exact same in-game item but just because I bought the JP FFXIII I couldn't use the code... how silly is that?

Was planning to buy JP FFXIV but bought 2x Collectors Edition NA version since it was cheaper and during beta/alpha learned you can change locale language to Japanese through config so I can play in JP with NA version buuuuuuuuut you can't use in-game item codes since those are region specific...

On top of that JP square-enix account doesn't take credit cards outside of Japan + with current exchange rate you would be paying a lot more for same service... so even if I bought JP FFXIV I would of ended up not being able to play it at all.

I understand that this is the age of the Internet at all... but borders still exist and the laws governing them can be complicated. I feel bad that this happened to you, but when it comes to using electronics and other items and services that cross borders, you should always use what's available in your home country to avoid this kind of confusion.
