Two minor posts first.

1. http://goo.gl/Xf0qZ - Foxclon stating his time (1minute shorter than YoshiP's) but saying the staff's time wont be counted so don't worry and also to make sure to check the thread first to make sure there isn't anyone with same time as you previously since one time can only be posted once.
2. http://goo.gl/WQTaA - This one the thread just asks for the forum profile to show the job and be able to choose class or job from settings since we only have class at the moment. Triairy replying saying that's a good idea and will check if it can be included.

There is a thread talking about materia's on JP side and they talk about how some materias should be melded onto other parts of the gear or how elemental, stat resistant materia's are crap. Anyways Triairy responded regarding the Manathirst (MP+ materia).

智者のマテリアの効果が低いというフィードバックを頂いていますが、自然回復 するMP量は最大で自身のMPMAXの7.5%になっており、これに智者のマテリアの効果でMPMAX+100が付いている場合、さらに3秒につきMP7 の回復量上昇が得られることになります。そのため、智者のマテリアの数値は現状では適切な数値だと考えています。
We received feedback saying the Manathirst materia's effect is low but with auto heal the maximum it will heal will be 7.5% of own MAX MP. So if you have MP Max+100 with materia's that means you will gain 7MP more every 3 seconds. For that reason we believe the Manathirst materia's value is optimal.

ただし、今後のフィードバックや他のマテリアとのバランス調整次第では性能の見直しを行う可能性もありますので、引き続きフィードバックを頂ければと思います。
However, with feedbacks depending on balance with other materia's it may be possible it may be changed so please continue to leave feedbacks

ファイアの消費が294(LV50）なので、智者の効果でMPが100増えれば126秒＝つまり2分休憩すれば一発ファイア分お得になる計算ですね。
Fire MP cost at Lv50 is 294 so with Manathirst effect getting 100 MP will mean 126 seconds = so with that calculation you rest 2 minutes you get to cast 1 free Fire spell.

For example, my max MP on WHM is 3400+, 7.5% of that is roughly 255MP, with max manathirst and the max heal tick every three seconds, I heal 262MP. In ten senconds of healing I can cast two fire spells, just ten seconds.

For example if you gain 45 mp every three seconds on the first tick, now you gain 52 mp every three seconds (This is just numbers thrown out there).

I think he's just going by the 7MP part - 3 seconds every minutes = 20 times per minutes
20 x 7 = 140MP/minute with 100MP+ materia effect part only
so 2 min = 140x2 = 280MP for 2 Minute giving almost 1 free Fire spell

But yeah if you go with the 45 MP with +7 MP that does change a bit overall I guess.

From the translation, yeah, it seems he just calculated the 7 MP/tick, Wich should not be the case. You would need to calculate the whole healing effect.

if you tripple meld manathirst to 5 pieces of gear for a total of +500mp thats +35mp/tic from manathirst materia alone which means 294 per fire/35 per tic = 8.4 tics x3 seconds per tic = one free fire spell every 25 seconds on average.

That's 10+ extra Fire casts during a 5 minute battle (AV/CC boss fights?)
