SE has already done a pet battle pankration says hi. Last time I checked they didn't get sued for that or their whole monstrosity where you are the monster and now can do pvp with it.

Pretty sure the issue with pet battles isn't because of legal issues, but because they have no system in place that allows such, which means they gotta make it and test it which is a time consuming process. You probably won't see a feature like this until at least a new expansion.

+1 for OP^
SE: P L E A S E Turn Based gameplay mode for old FF Fans, can be minions...
(do not forget about large group of people still playing Turn Based Games (this one here)).
English is not my native language. Sorry for grammar and vocabulary.
My entire English language learning are just games.
Not too old to improve of course.

This would be cool. So like each minion is a unit with specific stats/abilities, some minions being stronger and some being weaker. Then you deploy a set number of minions in a turn-based battle in a square grid, like in FFT/FFTA or super robot wars/taisen (SLG games). Would give minions more use and ppl more reasons to get the stronger/rare minions.
Sorry, little off topic, but the first thought that popped into my head:
"ASSEMBLE THE MINIONS!!!"
On topic, yes, it would be great. Completely random, no strategy, just pick one, throw it in the "ring" with another, and let them go and see who wins.
A way to start a battle is if you see someone with a minion out, there could be the challenge minion option added when you click on them.
I would disagree with it being part of a card system though. I think it should be completely separate from and in addition to a card game.![]()

It would be a mix of my two favorite things. Final Fantasy and Pokemon. DO IT! DO IT NOW!

Companion Battling would be far cooler.

http://gamerescape.com/2013/06/17/e3...naoki-yoshida/GE: Are there any future plans for minions? In WoW, for example, there was a battle-type system. Any plans for anything like that?
Yoshida: We have so many minions planned. For us, we don’t want this to have too big of a footprint in the game, because some will be from events and different things and if they were really useful in the game and some people that don’t have them will be at a disadvantage. We don’t want to create that unfairness, we want it to be more of a fun thing. We saw how they did the fighting pets in WoW, and I thought it was really just Pokemon. But, we are looking at having the companions, like the Chocobo or Magitek armor, battle. Would you rather have two airships or two fingers fighting? We think that’s what the players want – to see Chocobos and Magitek fighting – so we will put our efforts there.

I won't say I particularly WANT it, but I'd likely have tons of amusement watching Maggie fight.
I'd rather they work on a system so that more than just our Chocobo can fight with us, though. I'd rather my Maggie fight at my side with her magitek guns (because at this point, I only use my Chocobo for healing.. which isn't often).

All they gotta recreate, so SE already has two systems in FFXI they could adapt for something like this in this game. I know the mantra is "FFXI = bad!" with the XIV community, but it really does show they at least tried unique systems in their MMOs at one point.
