    DoH and DoL should have end-game content

    Inspired by the recent thread in the DoL sub-forum (http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...DoL-FATE-Ideas.) as well as pleas for more content (see: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...e-like-FISHing) I wanted to bring this topic back up.

    FFXIV is one of the few MMOs I've played in recent years with a half-decent crafting system. It's engaging, it has depth, and it's generally fairly enjoyable. However it's still not a full fledged class like the DoW classes. It has no end-game relevance. It has no alternatives to leves, crafting log, and grinding to level. We get no dungeons, no FATEs, no group activities, and nothing super fun at level 50 except the stress of overmelding our gear to make 2-stars. This is a wasted opportunity.

    Our most recent 'content' was housing, which few of us can afford and there's practically no market for the items. Great.

    Yes, we've heard from the dev team 'currently there are no plans for DoH end-game content' and 'dungeon gear is always better than crafted'. However we have also seen the dev team re-consider when faced with sufficient opposition that offers a good idea. Mainly I don't want people to resign to the fact that crafting and gathering have no future, because right now it doesn't feel like they do and it's very discouraging to a number of players who prefer crafting/gathering. Sometimes you just want to do something that isn't a variation of the verb 'to hit'.

    So please lend your thoughts and show your support to expand DoH and DoL to be closer to full fledged classes and have a bright future.

    Only reason I don't see them reconsidering is the reason they chose to gimp Crafting as a whole. They fear RMT (Real Money Transactions). Crafting is easily abuse-able with RMT. There are already Bots running around with harvesting and ruining the crafting economy with dirty cheap resources, killing the sales anyone else may be trying to profit off of with crafters. They also craft as far as I've seen and sell some items cheaply lowering the price for crafting. The biggest thing bots are used for is currently RMT as well. They farm, sell, and then sell the gear/Money/Items for real money.

    This is the reason presented to why we can't have better Materia crafting. The reason why we can't craft anything better than End Game Dungeon gear. The reason why they don't plan on improving anything in the near future.

    That logic is flawed though. By doing that, they are letting RMT effect the game on a core level. RMT, inadvertently or not, now has a say in the game development by what it chooses to try and exploit. I'm pretty sure that is the opposite of what they want, since they are trying to prevent RMT from impacting the game, but by doing so they are gimping essentially half the classes in the game.

    The explanation they always give for why we can't craft the best gear is because they don't want players to be able to get fully geared just by buying stuff from the MB. Yoshi-P wants people to be able to get the best gear in the game without ever using the MB.

    Personally, I disagree with this vision of his. The best gear in the game should function like abjuration gear in FFXI. One part of the gear comes from a non-tradable boss drop and the other part comes from crafting. It's stupid that the best gear in the game can't even be melded.

    Has Yoshi ever heard of bind on pickup items?

    There's no reason you couldn't have superior crafted items from un-tradeable crafting components.... You would have to have the craft class on the character that gets the drop, craft the gear, and the gear wouldn't be tradeable.

    Where is the RMT issue?

    There's already a NBG rolling system in place- just make a validation check that you have to have the relevant craft class to roll need... otherwise it's greed- just like other job specific drops- except it will check against unequipped job and levels.

    Pretty sure WoW did that with recipes.... not sure why a new game couldn't do it.
