It would also be neat if you have a chance in fishing up shards, crystals and clusters or maybe even weapon parts.

We also used to get this. Shards would come up at random with fish, as would dark matter. Certain fishing spots also had catalysts for materia melding.

Added to that, fish could be "cracked" by alchemists and turned into shards and crystals. Fish were way more useful back then.

If it was posible to eat them raw, that would also be at least a bit beneficial. Now I dont know exactly which fish to toss and which fish to keep on me for cooking, leves, and trade ins.

Some fish have interesting "flavor" text though ..... Eunuch Grayfish anyone? them poor lalas .... or ... why are they pointing their .. you know what .. at a Grayfishes pincesrs?

Used to be able to eat fish raw xD.

I'm absolutely loving that all of these suggestions by you folks with 2013 join dates are suggesting all the stuff fishing used to have. Even new players know that fishing is lacking, and even though the old system was boring, it was better than what we have now.

I personally like fishing the way it is, I haven't played 1.0 so I wouldn't know what that feels like. But at the moment I enjoy the simplicity of fishing, and once the so called challenges are implemented in 2.2, I think it will spice it up a little bit.

No I dont think fishing match other DOL classes.
Even if we are not talking about Fishing can not determine the yield you want, the amount of baits to lug around is annoying and can takes up to 2 inventory pages.
So what about other DOH class ?
Miner = Your pick axe and offhand tool you are good to go anywhere to mine
Botanist = Your sickle and offhand tool and you are good to go for harvest
Fisher = Unless you know are only going to 1 fishing spot, Lake Tahtotl, maybe 1-3 stacks of bait will be good enough.

Fisher need to replenish baits and still pay repair fees like other 2 DOL classes.
The fishes caught does not worth much in markets........ I really dont see much balance at all unless perhaps give Fisher a tackle box to reduce inventory space.
Increase fish default selling price to offset the consumables Fisher need to purchase =p

We need a Bait tab like how we have a Crystal tab.

I can get down with people liking it to be simple... but this' no more than a one-click procedure; I think we could find an easy compromise.

Bait/tacklebox is a must, even low level baits can be useful at high levels.

Yeah, a bait or tacklebox is a must.

When I'm out and about doing other stuff I might not even be thinking of fishing at first. But then I end up near water and think I'll do a little fishing. Well carrying all the baits is a nightmare. Some told me at higher levels you don't need the lower ones.

But if you decide you want to get a certain type of fish/coral, there are certain baits that are the best, the higher level baits just bring other things in.

Even the level one ocean bait lugworms has it's uses at much higher levels. Wanna catch Silver Sharks? One of the best places is Cape Westwind (time of day maybe important). The only low level fish there that take that bait are goby. Get an hq goby and mooch. You then you either get a Sliver Shark or a Wahoo.

I don't necessarily go out just to fish at a certain spot, I like to roam and not be restricted to carrying a small subset of bait some I how room for stuff I catch. But carrying all of it takes up almost an entire precious page of inventory lol.

Other times I need specific fish/coral for crafting. I do plant that ahead of time and can limit the bait I carry for those circumstances...
