Heck yeah. I was actually hoping for a move to XI's system with ARR, or at least to something at least as interactive as 1.0's was.
This' awesome.

I'm just going to say that I desperately wish all forms of gathering could be minigames again. I never did play in 1.0, but I saw the youtube videos of it and I really wish it could be part of the game, or at least some form of minigame.
Removing the minigames completely instead of expanding on them was one of the few decisions that I think Yoshi P really screwed up on. Hopefully that'll be fixed in the future... oen day. :c Or maybe one of the new minigames coming out eventually (like chocobo racing) can actually be good for gil?

Maybe not the best video on it but Archeage had a sort of action fishing I thought was neat/improveable (http://youtu.be/V5e3QKTRKgo?t=3m27s*). You had the basic option which just fished stuff sort of like now and then a sports fishing option which had its own mini game.
Not incredibly new idea, but like Zelda I had fun fishing with this sort of reactive style - I miss 1.0's minigame and had wished they improved upon it. 2.0's mini game or the lack thereof is rather disappointing; however, they did add some side content that I appreciated (fishing maps, best catches, different locations, weight).
*not an "exact" request, just an example and I think it could use improvements but at least that direction as opposed to the only option we have now (and again Archage has basic and advanced options).

I loved fishing in those games! I'm gonna have to go back and play them now lol.I'm a big fan of Breath of Fire. What does that have to do with this topic? Simple: the second, third, and fourth Breath of Fire games (And maybe the fifth, but as far as I'm concerned that one doesn't exist) had very good Fishing mini-games. Each one got to be more complex than the previous, with various types of rods, baits, distances you could cast to, depths you could catch Fish at, and even a couple special catches, if you used a special type of bait. Furthermore, just about every single type of fish you could catch had a use, ranging from healing items to battle items, and some of them were even on-par with end-game items that were in very limited supply.
