Some of the fish are pure junk, others can be mooched if for something else if they are hq. Best think to do is if you weren't forced to discard them, just sell them to an NPC for a meager amount.

GP isn't used by fishers, at least not yet. But they have it. Hopefully in the future it will have some use that adds a little more depth fishing.
I'm not a lvl 50 fisher yet, but I crafted all my lvl 50 gear ahead of time. Nome of it has GP added, except the gloves which add three. Probably an accident lol.

Keep fishing the same way it is now
Just need a tackle box to hold all the bait and lures separate from the inventory i can't and don't even really fish anymore (also Lv50) with not much space left! and maybe fishing basket to hold fish cause you do get lots of useless fish that isn't even used for anything so you have toss or npc them
We need a setting to auto use Aetheryte Tickets ~ An amount set by the players like set to 500 Gil if a teleport cost over that amount it will auto-use a ticket!
*looks at 1.0 gathering classes* *looks back at 2.0 gathering classes* b-but that would require us to... actually do something! D:Off-hand Reels (different looks, actually display on the rod)
Cast
Control Depth - Drop Line/Reel Back?
Depth Meter (different fish based on depth)
Set the Hook - Weak/Strong?
Tension Meter (manipulate drag to keep the fish hooked)
Increase/Decrease Drag
Respond to Tugs (sound cues prompting when to pause/reel)
(I support anything that would make gathering classes less braindead than they are ( - . -![]()

Apparently i'm the only one who likes fishing as it currently is. I certainly dont want the overly elaborate things of 1.0 back. I fish for relaxation, and it truly is relaxing. Just chatting with friends or your FC, watching the scenery and reeling in when you hook something.
I dont want to have to fight something with 4-5 diffirent mechanics for a minute just to reel something in. I dont want to think of anything even. Just relax and fish.
The ONLY improvement fishing could use is having more than 20 out of the 200 available fish have any use. Most of them could potentially show up in a GC turn-in one day, but who cares about that. More recipes, more uses for them. Heck, bring back fish cutting from XI to find gil and items inside of them.

Just because some of us never used the OF back during 1.0 doesn't mean we never played it =\Used to be able to eat fish raw xD.
I'm absolutely loving that all of these suggestions by you folks with 2013 join dates are suggesting all the stuff fishing used to have. Even new players know that fishing is lacking, and even though the old system was boring, it was better than what we have now.
Although I know you're aiming it at people that didn't play 1.0, hence the join dates, but still it's kinda vague and we all don't fit that boat =\

SE, Bring it all back!Off-hand Reels (different looks, actually display on the rod)

It could be a bit more like Crafting in that you could have a Distance measure (opposite to progress, when a fish hooks you want to reel it back in…it’ll fight you increasing distance away, if it reaches max you lose the fish)… and utilize techniques to help your odds of baiting HQ fish (chum, drift, jig, troll, & etc… perhaps differentiate it from crafting in that you couldn’t 100% HQ, maybe cap at 50% with the remaining 50% left to chance).
As it is currently, FSHing is pretty lame... there's a ton of potential currently built into the game to make FSHing amazing & honestly... it wouldn't be too difficult. I just handed you the tools, now: make a few reel-models/icons, create a few simple abilities plus their animations, a couple UI elements, & you're done.

I think the changes you have added would take away from "Kick back and Fish" style that FSHing currently embodies. As a player that hit 50 FSHing before I got 50 WAR I can tell you that the FSHing mechanic is perfect for what FSHing actually provides.A small steady income off from 5 different fish. If the mechanic was any more time consuming then it currently is we will make like 10 gill and hour. I like the 1 button "oh snap I got something" simpleness that FSHing offers is not like anything else in the game. The fishing holes in Eorzea are beautiful and with all that fiddling around you have suggested it would be next to impossible to chat or enjoy the landscapes and day-night changes in each spot. "The Burning Wall" after a rainy night when the sun rises...sigh it's great. After all this isn't "Pro Bass Fishing" don't most normal people just grab some worms and go sit next to some water and fish?

I think if changes are to be made they should be
*Offhand = Net
*New Ability "Cast Net 1,2,3" each yielding more fish for a higher GP cost
*Narrow down the amount of fish that can be obtained at each fishing hole making better use of the Bait/Time of day/ Weather mechanic
*Fish Basket/Tackle Box inventory tab
*Mooch should allow you to use a fish from your inventory(GP Cost)
*Double Mooch should work like Mooch currently does
*Add more uses for fish I.E. Daily Supply Missions from the FSH Company, tournaments, recipes, Wall Trophies (House Item requiring 100 of that fish).
I just wish they'd throw in catching mobs/mini bosses like in FFXI. Some of the funest times I've ever had in ANY game was on the ship. "Hey what are you doing? Don't fish here"....screams and yells, people dieing from a giant sea monster. I'd hide in the ships hold and peek out to watch people fighting this creature. Just awesome!!!
