HOW TO BE A DEDICATED HEALER:
-Level Conjurer
-Level Thaumaturge
-Only use healing and buffing spells
So far it's been working great for me. No need to force people to heal, if you want to heal you already have the right to do so.

^ Hear hear, I have Conj to 40 and Thau to 27 and healing the party is NEVER an issue for me. now, keeping hate off myself seems to be a bit harder, but im working out the kinks in my own playing style to overcome that :P
Ive been playing since Launch and Im still sitting in the rank 30s. Hell, I've been playing since Alpha.
We need our roles define. We need an advantage to be a healer as CNJ over THM. I at least get the sense that SE now understands this, but with only one big update to CNJ (MP Auto Regen) in five months, How long do I have to wait?
Cobra Kai Dojo for life.

The sad truth is that the game designers have lost their way with designing the magic using jobs. None of the jobs have the Final Fantasy feel to them. They're just slow induction AoE DPS/Heal jobs. No finesse and no Final Fantasy immersion to the jobs.
I'm also going to have to disagree.
I very much like the fact that I am able to choose between being offensive and defensive. Part of the beauty of FFXIV is that we have so much choice. The beauty is we AREN'T pigeon-holed into a role. And I love that. If you split it, I have to choose between only healing or only DDing, which completely takes away my versatility.
Or Conjurers are black mages with a few healing spells to keep them alive. As an avid mage player, I have to agree that these classes need to be seriously reworked. For one, it bugs me that we're playing a Final Fantasy game, and there is no Black Mage. Considering any player worth doing end-game content with will probably want to min/max their efficiency, it doesn't make sense to have the magic damage class be able to heal. If we had a party with one of every single class in the game, we would have two healers. It wouldn't make any sense to cast an offensive spell, as that mana would be better put to use healing. It sucks, but that's the elitist reality at this point. So for all of the conjurers who picked up the class to play as a Black Mage... they won't get to do that when content is finally available.
I really don't get why everyone is so against splitting up the mages. It's an obvious solution. All of the classes lack definition at this point, so I really feel like this needs to be done. Otherwise, we'll have no dedicated healer, and no defined offensive casters. Most of the Conj I bump into seem to be under the impression that they are Black Mages with buffs/heals. The reality is that they are healers who have some toys to solo with. When I join up with my LS mates, they *know* I'm not going to be a healer. I hate healing. It is, however, nice to have the option to heal, particularly if I'm soloing or doing a quest.
I don't think that SE is going to do anything so radical as split CON in half. We need to think of CON, at this point, as a red mage. Decent at healing and nuking but without the specialization of either. But it's very clear that people want to specialize as a CON, or recruit CONs who are already specialized. So what's a fair solution?
Advanced job classes. The current classes are structured to rank 50. What if, at rank 30, a CON could choose to specialize as a black mage or a white mage? This would allow for specialization, class uniqueness and defined roles in parties. Each specialization would retain the CON spells up to rank 30: white mages would have the benefits of tier-two nukes should they want to solo or play around, and black mages to have a few support spells. It makes sense from a flavour standpoint that our current our "red mage" CON might evolve in this way. It would still allow for soloing, which the developers have stated they want to continue as a gameplay option. It might even allow the dev them to incorporate a formal red mage class, where CONs can choose to continue using both rather than be forced into offensive or defensive. And each of the three could have unique skills to further emphasize their uniqueness.
Oh, and a summoner. We need summoner!![]()
I don't think the Conjurer needs to be split.
If a player is a Conjurer determined to do damage and forego all healing, the player is responsibility for letting their party know, "This is what I'm going to do." And if the party feels, "That's ok," then great! If they're looking for a more dedicated healer for whatever activity they're looking to do, it means the player may get left out of that party.
It's akin to a Gladiator and Marauder who can serve the roles of tanks and damage dealers. They have versatility for both roles. But I don't think their class should be split between their capabilities.
Your idea kinda reminds me on Scholar from FFXI, Dark arts and Light arts... its not a bad idea... but i would have to agree with removing Conj and Thm, I loved being a Blm and not being expected to heal... or when i wanted to heal i would go whm and not be expected to dd... I think they should undo their dicing of the classic FF Caster classes and bring back the mages we all love.... And to help with your solo, the old subjob system allowed whm to sub ninja and duel wield clubs to solo... with the armory system, just add some abilities from other jobs...I'm really against splitting the versatility of the mage jobs up because I for one enjoy being able to take over both offensive and defensive roles at once and it was a major part of the appeal for Conjurer for me. I feel that instead there should be traits, abilities, gear, or some other customization tool, to allow us to optimize in one role while weakening the other so we can specialize according to how we want to play our class, but leaving the versatility option open.
Seriously. They gave some abilities to each DoM class so there would be solo'n ability. I realize that with grabbing skills from the other DoM class you could do this similarly ... but until you get r36 the spells are less effective and have a greater cool-down!
Those who level both end up with a hybrid of both spell lists anyways after r36 ... Honestly, the role you pick as a magi is what you load on your bar and what you communicate to your party/LS. I'm spec'd all INT/PIE but I do keep cure/sac on my bar. Its not all that effective w/o MND but a kickass pocket-heal compared to some DoW jobs.
One's effectiveness, or "build" should be more apparent .. why we need adv jobs / traits to increase a small subset of skills that you yourself have trained harder in! Give us more uniqueness and steers us away from these current cookie-cutter characters.
Considering that they mention "White Mage" as an example for class names that are going to be used when they switch the current ones to traditional ff names, it would make sense that they will actually split the CON into 2 classes. I for one am completely for the change. I would love to be a dedicated no questions asked type of healer. It would make joining groups a lot easier since everyone will know what role I play.
