Selling stuff on Market Board for vendor price...

Why does this happen? Someone enlighten me pls!

I could see some people just wanting to be helpful to new players but. I guess I'm concerned for people like gatherers and stuff. I know this stuff is being actually bought at the vendor price. It's not like it's so cheap cause it's not selling. Just check the log on market board and you'll see that dozens of stacks of items are being bought so cheap.

If you check my character, you'll see I have no gathering skills atm, so I'm more asking for the sake of the community.

Do you all agree that all these "helpful" people are hurting as well?

If it were me, I'd rather just vendor something then try to sell it on market board for vendor price. First off, there is so much competition to even sell it that cheap that mine may not even sell! Also, I feel that, if I had to do something to obtain something, someone desiring it for free is kind of being lazy. Even if obtaining it was easy for me, I still feel like someone should either: A) be someone I know or care about or B) offer me something for my time.

Am I just being selfish? If so, will you give me your stuffs? I wants!

I don't think anyone understands ffxiv's economy. I see people undercut by 50% then everyone else fails to notice it was a one off undercut so they all start undercutting the random 50% item.

    Yes.
It is also a very big lazyness because the price what the NPC would give you is written in the item info box. I can't understand people who sell an item for 1 gil less than a NPC would give him.

    Very sad, very sad.

Likely a few factors. For one thing, there's a decent amount of players in this game who don't really use the market board in an efficient way for whatever reason.

For another thing, there's a massive surplus of almost every item on the market due to the fact that people can farm up 99 of almost any gathering item in minutes. If items weren't so abundant, aggressive undercutters would be bought out in minutes and the market would stabilize again quickly, but in a game like this, if one person puts their items up at break even prices, you'll probably see ten more people putting their items up at the same price before that one even gets bought.

IMO, in a game where you can get pretty much everything from dungeons, there is not much need for crafting/gathering. In the begining crafters made lots of money because it was such a time sink just to get one piece of DL gear, but now everything is pretty much handed to you. When 2.2 goes live, im assuming crafters/gatheres will shine for a few weeks, then after that the price will sink again. Well, IMO anyway =]

This and the fact that even someone who plays only 1 day per week can lv up a crafting class in a matter of hours (granted if he has the money and leves for that).

I'm about to log off in the inn. I check my retainer and see I have an item that sells for same on MB as to the vender. Rather than going out of the inn and selling it, I just put it up for the vender price. If it is still there when I log in and check the retainer. I will take it down and vendor it.

I just keep it in the inventory and ventor it to the next NPC i meet. It would not worth to waste a sell slot on it (and you could make less gil because the 5% tax).

So.. what about the markets "cut". If you sell it on the market for 7gil.. you still have a percentage deducted. If you sell it directly to the npc for 7 gil.. you get 7 gil. Yeah its more convenient. =D It really comes down to what is more important to the player, convenience or gil!

Yeah, I do this too. Lazy people, unite!

(For everyone asking "what about vending fees" both my retainers and my own inventory are very full and require constant management to stay on top of things. The few gil I lose is worth less to me than that precious empty slot.)
