    Job question

So, the PS4 beta is the first time I've played this. I'm enjoying it and will likely be giving the full game a shot. When it comes to jobs, is there any point in leveling your secondary class beyond the 15 minimum to get the job?

If so, what are some ways to level? I hit the level cap in the beta so I figured I'd try a different class. Thing is I've used up all the story quests to that point and tons of side quests already. So I have the class quests every 5 levels and what? Leves? Grinding Fates?

    Welcome!

It depends, you might like to get the Job for that second class at a later date, in which case it is definitely worth levelling. Not to mention levelling other classes gives more abilities to cross class.

As for how to level, your first class you can pretty much take from 1 to 50 (the current final level cap) by pretty much just completing main story quests. There are other ways of levelling as well, such as the Hunting Log, FATEs, guildleves, and even dungeons all give exp, which if you have the exp boost for levelling a second class that is lower than your first one will make things a bit easier.

I didn't even realize there was an xp boost for leveling a class lower than another. That's good to know.

Ideally I'd like to have two jobs on one character for flexibility when getting a party together. One DPS job and one high demand job like a tank or healer. I just wasn't sure if that was feasible. I also forgot about Hunting Logs as a source of XP.

About dungeons, is there a limit to how many you can do them per day like many MMOs? Or does that only apply to leves? I've only done the three story ones on the way to 20 once because getting a healer was a chore.

i just thought i point out though all characters in phase one of ps4 beta will be deleted.. as for your 2 jobs there is a few lists floating around on the classes required for each job best way to lvl after the main quest is dungeons there all repeatable guild heists are a source but you only get good xp first time done so fate grinding leves hunting log and dungeons are going to be the best options

Cross class abilities are the main reason to level the other classes past level 15, if you don't want to get them to 50. You can check around on the web to know at what levels the skills get unlocked.

Also, having more than one playable endgame class ads diversity which is a good thing for anyone. It also makes it easier to party up with different people if you have more than one role available to you.

Thanks for the replies. I was aware that these characters were getting wiped. That's why at this moment I'm just trying out a couple different classes to see how they play. I didn't want to go into the main game with no plan though or with unrealistic expectations of what was achievable on one character.

Which actually leads me to another question. Looking at the starting stats of some races it's clear they lend themselves to certain classes. Do those differences in starting stats make a big difference as you progress or can you overcome them through gear and such? In other words would choosing a more STR based race with lower spell casting stats make it so that switching to a spell casting class using that character will make for a sub-standard spell caster?

Or, more simply lol: how important is the race you choose?

Usually you'd level past 15 for cross class abilities. You can see what abilities other jobs can use if you go to the actions menu. It lists all class actions through 50 and in the tool tip it says what classes/ jobs can use it. Most of the useful ones are lowish level, but a few (like stoneskin and blood for blood) require a bit more leveling.

Leveling a second, third, etc. class isn't too bad really. You won't be getting experience from maps, main scenario, or likely much from side quests, but the dungeon roulette offers a great exp bonus once daily and dungeons give good experience by themselves. Hunting logs give a modest but easily acquired amount of experience, leves are easy and more or less decent for experience gains, and FATES can be good depending on the zone, level range, others' participation, etc. For a DPS it might be a bit of a chore, but for tanks and healers you can pretty much repeat dungeons as often as you like with minimal down time.

The gap in starting stats, I believe, is as wide as that gap ever is (proportionately at least). By ilvl 90 your primary stat (STR, DEX, INT, or MND) is about 50% innate, 50% gear I think. I think I recall that hp variance between the lowest VIT race and highest ends up being about 2%. In other words it makes a small enough difference that even in a community of people min/ maxing everything nobody cares about it. Realistically you can play every single class in the game as well as anyone else.

There's only a difference of 5 or 6 stat points between the best and worst race for any specific stat. So no, it's not going to be game breaking at end game. Pick the race that's most aesthetically pleasing for you.

Also, there's no limit to how many dungeons you can do in a day. As a tank you can literally just keep queuing up for them after you finish them and chain them to your heart's content.

You get a 50% xp boost to FATEs and monster kills for any class lower than your highest one. For example, a Lv.15 pugilist would get the xp boost on a Lv.12 marauder until that marauder became 15 or higher.

It really is very feasible. Just so you know though, Tanks are in slightly higher demand compared to healers. Play what you like though. Some players like to cap both tanks, both healers, or a melee&ranged dps because the nuances make them slightly better for specific tactics/strategies they prefer.

For most dungeons there is no cap. There are only two exceptions: Crystal Tower and Coil of Bahamut. Crystal Tower lets you run it as many times as you want, but you can only get one item per week from it. Most just run it several times until they get the piece they want. Coil of Bahamut is a 5-stage dungeon that only lets you run each stage once each week. Once you beat the boss for the stage, you move on to the next one and can't backtrack. These dungeons are the very last two pieces of endgame though, so you will not notice it right away. Fortunately, SE will be removing the weekly cap on the current stages of Coil once patch 2.2 is released. I can't say if they're doing anything to Crystal Tower.

As said by Nutz, your race is purely for aesthetics and identity. The same stat differences are the same between an equally geared lalafell mage and a roedygan mage. It might affect things at early level, but at endgame where your primary stats are 400+, 2 or 4 points hardly matters. You literally only see a difference of 6 or 8 damage, which might as well just be from random number generators.
