I'm surprised SE even answered this rediculous topic. People leave «Shinra Corporation» because of the FC, they're not particularly pleasant people, they were even notorious (and avoided) in the first month, certainly not over a maintenance. If members left over maintenance, they would have stopped subscribing, not flat-out switched Free Companies. Still would have said a lot about the members. Still, if that's what they have decided to believe and exclaim to everyone, fine with me.
But dont waste SE's time and ours with questions they themselves could answered with a few seconds of logical thinking. There are far more important questions on these boards deserving of answers opposed to "Why didnt you give us advance notice of what you were going to change during the maintenance so we could quickly exploit it". :/
Totally understandable, so all those people complaining, quit your whining for god sake and let them do their jobs.Hello,
We'd like to take a moment to explain a bit about why we announce the Hotfix details at the timing that we do.
The reason we announce details during maintenance, or directly after, is because the maintenance are often focused on fixing bugs. As you can imagine, there are some bugs that we do not want people utilizing and therefore do not want to announce them ahead of time. Due to this, our rule is that we do not announce the content of these types of maintenance until it takes place.
...What? We don't care what the contents of the hotfix is, the point is you could have said "Servers will be down for 5 hours tomorrow" and it would have been ok. The point is, you didn't give any notice until 10 minutes before...Hello,

On the other hand, when there is a large scale patch like patch 2.1, we release the information ahead of time and we will be doing the same for patch 2.2.
However, even for these large scale patches, if there are bug fixes that occur at the same time for such things as changes to item buyback prices, or other things related to the economy, we will not be announcing this beforehand and it will be released after the maintenance takes place.
Moving forward we will be looking into ways to improve aspects, but currently we will be announcing patch and Hotfix content based on the above policy.
Edit -...Wait, I think you guys didn't understand my point xD I was saying that the mod didn't reply to what the OP was moaning about, I don't give a crap about maintenance haha.

The downtime has not been bad at all & I play every single day after I get home from work. The maintenance times are almost always middle of the night which is ideal for the majority of people. I would much prefer regular maintenance to ensure the game is running as it should during the prime time hours that I play, as apposed to the opposite where you wind up with a completely broken game as it almost was at launch...tons of people couldn't even log in. Let's be realistic here people...any company that offers digital services that run off servers, WILL have regular maintenance with some emergency ones mixed in. THAT'S HOW IT IS. What about online banking...consistent & regular maintenance scheduled during hours where the services are less used. Or maybe an online clothing site...hmmm...yep, seen those down for maintenance when browsing late nights at times. Just like you change the oil in your car or replace the tires every so many miles, computers need that kind of attention too...especially when they are running 24/7 with high traffic/usage. Drive your hard 24 hours a day constantly & tell me that there will be no kind of maintenance/upkeep at all. My god...can people be any less grateful for services rendered these days...makes me proud to be part of an older crowd.
As for the not telling people about bugs or price changes until they get changed...I agree with Marishi-Ten 100%. That should be one of those "DUH" moments.

I'm pretty sure the working definition of "emergency" constitutes something that merits immediate attention and can happen swiftly and without warning.
