Does Anyone Use Medicine?

While I've seen this myself, don't always assume that the other healer being on next to full MP is doing nothing. I've been accused of doing nothing before due to having almost full MP during a fight because I've been getting lucky with Freecure procs and am focusing on Cure I rather than II, whereas my other healer is spamming Cure II every time a tank takes some damage. It is possible to manage your MP quite easily.

With regards to the topic, I don't find I need Ether that often. Once you learn to manage your MP, there are very few situations where I find it necessary. Though after having to Raise a bunch of people, SoS and MB will only go so far.

Oh I know when the other healer is being lazy because I'm doing most of the AoE healing on my SCH.

Like you, I spam physick and only adlo when necessary, using lustrate for aether stacks. As as result, my normal MP level is extremely high and I never run out of MP. When the other healer decides to not AoE heal and I have to spam succor when whispering dawn is down, things become a problem. Also, I am usually the one to get the raise off faster than the other healer, resulting in lower mana.

On WHM, it's quite troublesome. You HAVE to play safe if you wish to manage your MP properly which does entail parts of the fight where you sit there twiddling your thumbs waiting for minor MP regen to occur.

Eh...such is life. Still, when I'm fighting Ultima and I'm at 1500 MP while the other healer is at 4000 MP and we're about halfway through the fight, something is up.

I always have meds and buff potions on me when doing dungeons... I have learnt to carry and utilize them ever since FFXI, and I defo see the benefits of having them 'just in case' the need arises, and you can't always rely on the support part of the party to always be 'on the ball'. In saying that, I've come across many newer players who just don't really know how and when to use them, they can see them as a waste of time and they use the excuse 'well isnt that what I have a WHM/SCH/BRD for!?!' (grrrr)

IMHO us experienced players just need to advise and encourage other players to be prepared, not just for themselves, but for the benefit of the whole party when doing dungeons, etc.
....Have these meds and buff potions as part of the backup to their job/class and be prepared just in case

The primary use of MP restoratives I would think would be for BLM's Flare, simply because the way the spell works practically encourages their use.

If your healer is hard-pressed enough to need to use them (regardless of whose fault it is) you're probably in deep caca regardless.

I usually end up popping a couple mega-ethers or an x-ether for Ifrit Ex when people fail at dodging (usually the tanks during nail eruptions `-`). Ending up dry after the third nail phase isn't uncommon if I don't want to ask for ballad too much. On my bard I pop a couple dex potions for Twintania. It's just good practice for when we don't overgear content, plus I made a zillion of these getting my luminary.

I was in Ultima Hard Mode, and the other healer wasn't that great with MP management. So, he kept bothering the Bard for Ballad, but the Bard was out of MP himself because of Ballad. So i told the Bard to use an Ether, then Battlevoice + Ballad, but he said he doesn't carry them. I told the other healer to pop an Ether then, he said he didn't carry them either.

I carry them, but only use them for emergency situations, but I was wondering if anyone else feels the game mechanics don't really push people to feel the need to carry meds.

I only ever use MP pots. Why? Because of the stupid global cooldown. I use 1 pot, EVERYTHING is on cooldown. Especially if a bard isn't around. What happens when I pop a boost potion and 67 years later when I need to pop a mp potion it's still ticking down? I'm SoL. Many a time has a high end MP pot plus my other WHM cooldowns for boosting healing have pulled me through a tough spot.

I dont Carry them either, never had a situation where i really used anything ... and by the lack of place in inventory, they mostly getting sold to NPC´s.

Only thing I save are the good Ethers, to build a third Flare in my BLM rotation, but my this DPS is more egopushing than actually needed...

Funny was the WHM last week who travelled with me as Bard... aksing for (read SPAMMING FOR!!111) Ballad, with about 70% of his Mana Full...

As a DRG I use mega pots of STR all time time, although mainly in Coil. I also carry X pots in-case I see my HP getting a little too low for my liking and think the healers might miss curing me in time.

I don't use potions ever. My FC leader suggested we all start using the stat potions, since they are just sitting in the bank for us, so I'll probably start grabbing Dex potions.

I've had similar situations with the bard in the OPs post. Garuda EX, I'm using Foe Requiem to help out casters out. Run out of mana and waiting for it to regen (or refresh in this case). Whm dies and then starts spamming pt chat for Ballad. I wasn't carrying ethers so I couldn't help him and got a little irked by the spams..but eh. The only time I use ballad is when I see whm MP dip below 1800. I never know when to hit it for sch's since they can get mp back. :-/
