    ***Note: I have been running this game almost flawlessly for 2.5 months. Then when
    went to update the game through patch 1.17c (I believe), I received an error
    and could not open up the game NOR delete FFXIV which prompted me to do
    clean install. I have Catalyst Control Center 11.6, DirectX 11, and my ATI
    Radeon 5770 cards (I have 2) have the latest drivers. I am not sure what
    do now I am running this on two 2.66 GHz 6 core processors.

    What error pops up? Is it when you click play? at the character select screen? after you've selected the character? is it when you are trying to update?

    what anti-virus and firewall do you have? as those might have updated and detected some part of FFXIV as a threat and locked it up or deleted it just checking the reacent history or logs in those programs will tell you, and have you attempted to end the process:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XIV\ffxivconfig.exe 000017A8"
    if not try that or try restarting the computer. if for some reason it is still unresponsive then a manual removal might be required.

    I did not have antivirus or firewall on when I tried to start up FFXIV. Believe me, the game worked fine for the first 2.5 months. I have not tried to end the process, yet.

    The error comes up at the beginning with the black screen followed by the message "Final Fantasy XIV has stopped working". I had this message way back when I first tried installing the game and since then had it fixed for 2.5 months until now . I am on Windows 7 Ultimate by the way.

    Funny though...when I go from Windows 7 to Windows 98 compatibility, however, instead of getting the black screen with the message "Final Fantasy XIV has stopped working", I get the blue screen that says "Checking version..." along with the "Final Fantasy XIV has stopped working" :/

    >_>; Funny...it says my ATI drivers are updated...however, I was reading other forums and someone mentioned that he went to the optional Windows update - I found my ATI Radeon HD 5700 listed...I'm going to try to d/l the driver via optional update (which was not listed before for some reason). I'm going to pray this works :/ It's probably a really simple issue. I am starting to hate microsoft and SE ; ;
