Ah, so I'm not the only one looking at the past as a roadmap for the future. =D
Despite gift's history of trolling, he's spot on here. A lot of people who followed XI never tried anything else. Granted, game A and game B can't be exactly the same, but having a point of reference for design philosophies, class mechanics, dynamics in group content and such helps when examining design and making comments. Yes, I'll admit it, City of Heroes, WoW and even Lineage II have stronger influence on my opinions as far as what I believe should be in an MMO than FFXI ever will (admitedly, this is because XI followed Everquest closely and I was not a fan of how things were done in EQ).
It reminds me of a conversation I once had with someone in my shell, which was me for about 20 minutes trying to explain to the guy the term HoT. I mentioned HoT and he would think Regen, though Regen and HoT's are not exactly the same. Another instance had me trying to explain abilities like Soul Tap and Body to Mind, and no one in the group seemed to understand that they are very different from Convert. Good times. >.>;;;
ok how do you assume that btw?
how do you come to the conclusion that most XIV players are SE fanboys that never tried anything else?
i wont write my mmo list cus i ll just seem plain poser i ll only say that i understand where ur comming from but i dont see what u see.
I dont see ppl blindfolded if xi or xiv . most ppl i see here are like me , ppl that ended up in SE and XIV simply cus every god damn game out there tries its hardest to be like wow.
and tbh bcus i was talking abt what is wrong with mmos today i ll say this:
i miss the days when i had to tape my mouse to save my hand from cramps grinding in MU
i miss the days that a few ppl managed to get to top lelvels in L2 and lvl and gear was a real pain
and i miss xi s difficulty (and nothing else :P)
hell i even miss diablo 2 multiplayer.
Casuals is what is wrong with mmos today
have to say lineage 2 was hardcore open world pvp game.
Dance like you mean it !
i remember when those got added. LOL no one complained they were leveling too fast. Even still players still complained about leveling in ffxi and they added the empreror band. Empress band and cheriot band happen in 2005. emperor band was semi recent plus they added the anni ring (which can be used with the other exp rings) and yet people still couldn't level fast enough so they added the fov pages and now plan on adding one for dungeons XD. Yet no one complains lvling is fast in ffxi. Only in ff14.If any kind of "rested XP" concept makes it's way into 14 I really hope they add it in a way which holds true to the Final Fantasy style. Those of you who played 11, at least from 2005 and on, will remember the [Emperor Band], [Empress Band] and [Chariot Band].
Something along those lines, but with a new and inventive twist, would be very nice.
ffxi was slow not difficault. >.>ok how do you assume that btw?

Well its kinda fast, you can hit rank up with 1 leve run. I hope devs are clever enough to not implent offline exp.
I honestly think this is a terrible idea, it's a nice little slap in the face for those who actually put in the time and effort to get their SP/XP. I understand wanting to help keep casual players at least somewhat on par with hardcore or more frequent players, but I really see a lot of people hating this in the future...
Also... Easy mode much?
Now this kind of thing I could get on board with. All these extra "bonus" systems that have nothing to do with actually "playing the game"... Rather they all have to do with "How long you play the game"...
How about SE rewards players with bonus XP for their skill in battle rather than their time playing...
For example:
Successful BR = +5%XP for the party
or
Complete the fight in 30 seconds = +5%XP for the party
etc...
No Good? Free XP better than skillfully acquired XP?
After you have been logged on for 5+ hours they should triple sp gain!!!!!
Well this IS the surplus system we currently have, just set up slightly different. This is not so bad, I understood it the way Physic did also, which would be absurd. I initially took it to mean that you would gain whatever small amount of XP over time while not logged into the game, meaning that if you logged for 72 hours at 10k tnl, when you came back you would be 9.7k tnl or something. But the way Caerith has explained it would be more than reasonable and as I said above, it is basically what we have now...But you don't get exp for nothing.
You get a slightly higher exp rate for a short amount of time.
If you log out at 10k tnl, you log back in at 10k tnl. All rested exp means is that if you log out for like 72 hours, you get an empress band effect (where you gain +10% experience for your first 5k experience or so).
