    AoE Toggle Removal Clarification, Please

Can you give us some more insight on this, Bayohne? Specifically, how will this affect our current action bar situation? Will we need to have that many more spells/abilities on there after this?

Also, how will this affect Action Points? Will we be forced to spend extra on both a single and AoE target spell?

I too am curious. And a bit disappointed that it's being removed. But mostly curious.

Yep. You will need to equip both if you wand single and AoE versions. This sucks tremendously.

But don't worry...jobs will also have 2hrs ability (jobs only) and will have skillchain (with job exclusive WS only...prolly theyy might do a similar system for battle regimen so battle regimen = debuff and SC = damage). Also, we will be getting EXP chain system so ppl from FFXI wouldn't notice major differences when they're forced to migrate...only things that might stay are the armory system parts related to class change and action slots, because its some major upgrade if compared to FFXI job system.

...because with the very similar battle system its much easier to merge both games.

And for those that think its just a guess, check out the last patches and changes from FFXI too...they both are converging into one thing...and this includes the end of POL viewer, which will already suffer the first change in august, when FFXI will become related to SE ID and payment will change to the very same system used by FFXIV. Its possible that then the other POL features are just migrated to POL site and the viewer being removed for good.

Don't normally post on the forums, but I just wanted to voice that if we return to XI's massively redundant spell list system with this change, it would be terribly disappointing. Granted, that might not be what happens, but still. The thought of fitting that many skills on a limited actionbar doesn't seem possible.

I have enough trouble fitting all the spells I want plus any skills I want to activate without going over a limit. Moreover this sounds like you'd have to use macros anyway, which if I read the last thread complaining about AoE, was something people didn't want to do... which personally boggles my mind as to how you guys fight efficiently without them

    Oh well.

great, so I gotta be R50 on CON and THM in order to actually have all my wanted spells on the 3 action bars....just great....and I was really starting to enjoy playing as CON/THM, made a nice and simple macro for Alt+1 to turn AoE off and on looks like that was a waste of time

    Edit:
    I dont like the sound of;

"spells will be evaluated and determined whether they will be an individual target spell or an AoE spell on a case by case basis."

to me that sounds MUCH worse than having two of each spell, it sounds as if say Silence was AoE but Slow is single target. That I cant stand

Believe it or not but the cooldown on spells has a huge impact on the amount of spells we have on our bars. I for one would only use the counter element for each enemey I am facing if I could use the same spell without limitations. So if they go away with the current cooldown they have on our spells, additional spells would not be a problem for me.

I must say - I am EXTREMELY disappointed with this turn of events... The toggle on AoE is one of the things I like the most about FFXIV only to find out that now, they want to go back to the old, redundant spell system of FFXI, only limiting us even FURTHER by either choosing spells for us or limiting what we can cast by having to equip as many as we can with our limited points. This absolutely sucks!!! Sure sometimes it was fun to cast high-level -aga spells to blow things up, but don't tell me there's not an easy way to accomplish this using the toggle system as many ways were discussed on the other thread "AOE Toggle Needs to go!" I would cast my vote to either a) Put in a toggle "Mode" or b) leave it "as-is."

in the "AOE Toggle Needs to go!" I have found nothing but insanity. I can't for the life of me figure out why pressing one button to toggle AOE is too difficult. I too would love to know what's happening since this could potentially alter and ridiculously nerf the DoM classes.

Well, from last interview seems like right now only cure will split into cure and curaga...even tho it might be a translation error, i'd assume lower spells might keep the toggle, with "job spells" having AoE only...like BLM having only -ga nukes.

Perhaps I've just gotten too spoiled to having one size fits all spells.. This change doesn't sound fun.
