So - Shameless bump, first and foremost.

Second - some clarification. If this thread get's hot I will edit OP with it.

These will NOT be able to be bot-able Unless they are botting 3-4 characters that can work in syncronization to defeat an enemy with special attacks. Remember that patch item that screwed T2 for about 18 hours? They were messing with a way to make their current monsters randomize their attacks. Maybe a single level 50 Bot in easy-to-obtain gear could kill the level 25 or 30 "Named" mobs, but the higher level stuff would take 2-4 players to take down. Also, if you want a game that bots can't exploit, might I recommend "Pong"?

These will NOT be zerged - As several people have mentioned, the claim system would need to be modified. Unlike what people have said, I really don't think its a "fundamental change to the battle system", I'm sure they can code that the party who first touches the mob gets a 100% chance at the loot, and the contribution credits are dimmed down to 1% or 0% chance at the loot. What's to stop 1,000 people from going to a high level area and killing everything in sight for the mob? Boredom, low chance of receiving the item, low chance of seeing the mob, etc? I suppose people could do that, but then you would be seeing 1,000 other people playing in the open world with you, chatting, meeting new people, fighting with them, making new friends and rivals! Awesome!

These items WILL be worth while - Like a couple people have said, I was just creating some random items/iLVLs, and like I said in the OP, with 2.2 the iLVL is going up so the highest level named mobs would need to be changed as well. My imagination leads me down the path of, if this were already implemented, Limsa's beast tribes would get new level 60-64 Nameds that might take closer to a full party, but drop a common i80 item that is uniquely useful (say, 6 different earrings that have like +20 to each different primary stat?) and a rare i90 ring. And then Limsa's newbie area's would get a rare-spawn like sheep or something that would attract bad-ass i99s to the area to troll through and see if its up (something like that might need to be on a 6hour (+/- 1 hour) timer, to prevent i99s from killing all newbie mobs, preventing people from finishing newbie quests).

For funsies: The i90/i80 drops mentioned above and the Named that drops them:

The Black Pearl (Sahagan Model that is twice as big as the rest and pitch black)
    Level: 62
Special attacks: Large single target magical damage, Alternates between debuffing magical attack power and physical attack power

Common Drop(s): Swirling Opalescent <Amber> Earring (replace < > with other gems for the correct stat modifier)
    Can Use: All classes/jobs
    Level: 50
    iLevel: 80
    Vit: 18

    Rare Drop: Swirling Omni-palescent Ring
    Can Use: All classes/jobs
    Level: 50
    iLevel: 90
    Magic Def: 18 | Vit: 18 | Int: 18 | Mnd: 18 | Dex: 18 | Str: 18 | Pie: 18
    - Item has a noticeable multi-colored aura when weapon is drawn
