Except that this is nothing like FATES. Fates are challengeless pointless fights. They drop nothing, spawn every 10 minutes, and require no brain cells to do.
The more incentive there is to a fight (such as loot or exp, in the case of Dark Devices in early 2.0), the more likely you'll find overgeared people waiting to claim it, take the inferior gear, and sell it for a quick buck.
FATEs are the open world NMs without much incentive, Behemoth and Odin are the NMs WITH incentive. Anyone can CLEARLY see the problem with both of these, right? "FATEs are pointless" and "Open world Primals have so much competition it's causing glitching and 90k's". So what do you propose as middle ground? Leveling up is so quick, and upgrading gear can be done every 10-15 levels with no repercussions.
It seems to me - as much as it pains to admit it - that instanced stuff (or options like treasure maps) are the best way to keep server strain in check AND to help with unfair claiming. Granted, after the game grows a bit more, adding new territories and perhaps multiple NMs like Odin and Behemoth popping at once, people may be more spread out, but it'll take time.
I think SE wants people to experience the story and content they created, and also to see the player base improve as a whole, not go to the MB and buy the best stuff and say, "I'm done!"

And then as you look at the loot you obtain, you laugh at it being i70 since you already have the i90 Primal staff, drop it, and never do the content again.
My point here being that unless there is something that's actually worthwhile that drops from these monsters, they'll go largely ignored just like the current FATE bosses. People did King Behemoth for years because it had such a minuscule chance to drop an item that was damn near impossible to replace.
SE can create all the open world content in the world, but if there's no incentive to do it more than once, who cares?

Once your in raid gear is there much of a point to do group content? No. But if they didn't throw raid gear at you for doing group content (myth tomes) this wouldn't be an issueAnd then as you look at the loot you obtain, you laugh at it being i70 since you already have the i90 Primal staff, drop it, and never do the content again.

Though if you insist on group content being relevant to raiders......
Add materia slots to raid gear (no overmelding). Make some NMs drop special materia. Stats you can't get from standard. Like a 5 crit 5 Det materia. Huzzah raiders now have a incentive to camp named if they want to be absolutely min/maxed. If they dont. 9 crit materia is still there.
Also since people keep bringing up FATES. This is NOT talking about fates. This is talking about a mob that is claimed by 1 group and only they get the loot. Don't want botters? Claim goes to the group that does the largest % of the damage. Huzzah unless bots are in armies of 8 sitting at every named you shouldn't have an issue.

I think we should go straight back to FFXI style NMs and SE should pony up and do their job and take care of these botters. Also, people who are sad and get out claimed... Well I think the response should be... SORRY... claim faster. Enough of this 'everybody gets a gold medal' mentality. It makes for a dry tasteless game.
Morticous - Senior admin of.... well of nothing. (cool picture here)
not a bad idea just make the items bound and untraddable already have enough bot issues don't need them all over my dailies simply because a rare mob might spawn that would suck. also i like that they only drop farmable ilvl gear.
of course with 2.2 i90 will be farmable![]()
Sorry for maybe a noob question because I never XI and only played 1.0 for like 2 weeks.
But if we have open world 'Boss' monsters like NMs (is that what they are?), what's there to stop 100 players come and kill them in 10 seconds? Like what happened now to Odin (I know we can't kill Odin in 10 seconds but I suppose NMs are weaker than Odin?).
That will be like some free loot for people who bother running them, rather than some challenge/team work/fun.
the current currency basically gives away the best gear for no effort unless you do coil. so getting i70 gear (the current farmable gear) which is still pretty freaken easy to get it's free gear that will be replaced in a week or two so it doesn't matter.Sorry for maybe a noob question because I never XI and only played 1.0 for like 2 weeks.

Because those FATE bosses/mobs are easy. REAL open world bosses, can't be zerged down.Sorry for maybe a noob question because I never XI and only played 1.0 for like 2 weeks.
