Wow, thank you all for your input. I always assumed that Phlebotomize was just a typical DoT and didn't know it was affected by Heavy Thrust. I did read some of A Rotation Reborn and that's how I learned about most of the skills. Also, I do try to weave different moves like jumps and Leg Sweep in to keep the damage going and sometimes to buy time for TP refill when Invigorate is on CD, as for Ring of Thorns, I primarily use it for large groups of weaker mobs but only use it on bosses because I enjoy the animation :P. Right now my gear is the standard lvl 50 Drachen set with the Obelisk lance, I've been a bit lazy with going for Darklight (and my friend is constantly nagging me for fish).
@Rex: I know, it annoyed the crap outta me too but you'd hafta take it up with VG Cats

It's honestly not the most powerful dot out there but Phlebotomize is very TP efficient compared to our other skills, when it is allowed to run its full duration that is. e.g. if the enemy has like 10% hp you shouldn't really bother using it over your Full Thrust combo.
Another thing you should consider is Doom Spike for AoE. Use it if you need AoE burst and if you can get everything lined up. AoE down to 50% TP, Invig, repeat to 50% TP and then switch to single target since you really don't want to be stranded with no TP when you might need to single target burst, which after all is our job.
Just for a little gag - the first step to be a useful dragoon is making sure you're not kissing the floor![]()
That goes same for all classes.
In any case, being the top DPS doesn't "always" mean you're being a useful Dragoon, sometimes it depends on what role you're trying to accomplish with your partymates, in my case, I'm playing the OT role in our T5 runs, hence I'm gimping myself a bit when tanking the hatches due to the positions, while at the same time I'm fulfilling my role as the OT of our party, in which I'm being "useful" for our party but by not having the highest DPS.
That is a bold recommendation...And then there's Feint. People say this ability is useless. There's no combo off of it or anything really. so what I do is test and see if the mob you're attacking can be slowed. If it can, Then put Feint into your rotation right after Phlebotomize. If the mob resists slow, you can ignore Feint entirely.
I'm not sure putting it in a rotation would be ideal - it's as if you put Shield Bash in a PLD rotation. Pointless since after short the mob/boss resists it. The first time you hit it it will last 20s, then 10s and so on. Less than 10s probably is worthless (you don't have the time to really slow any dangerous attack unless you know precisely if it's coming and it's not instant) and just a waste of DPS...And then there's Feint. NOT TRUE! We get 10 yalm, 5% heal buff with 12.5% uptime!!!! Thats more than 0 ultility@!! xDIf you're not Top DPS, you're not being useful, as Dragoons have 0 Raid/Party utility :3
Ask around the thread I've linked for a lot of tips on specific Boss Mechanics and rotation help. We'll always be glad to helphttp://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...otation-Reborn
... we also get backup stuns on Dreadknights should a tank drop ._.
